Hy-Vee sets a $29.99 minimum on every standard Aisles Online delivery order.

Orders that fall short of it pick up a $4.95 service fee at checkout, stacked on top of the $9.95 delivery charge.

A quick order for milk, eggs, and a rotisserie chicken can land at $22 or $23, comfortably under that line.

That’s easy to miss.

That minimum applies to standard delivery only.

Standard pickup skips this minimum, no matter how small the order runs.

3. Get It Faster’s $14.95 Jump

Hy-Vee charges $14.95 for its 30-minute Get It Faster delivery option, launched this year.

The price jump catches many shoppers off guard.

Standard delivery runs $9.95 and takes up to two hours.

Get It Faster prices that same delivery at $14.95 instead, a $5 jump for shaving the wait down to half an hour.

That’s the whole jump.

Many shoppers stick with the free two-hour wait instead.

Members of Hy-Vee PERKS Plus, the chain’s paid membership program, pay just $4.95 for the rush delivery.

Anyone without it pays the full $14.95 every time.

Hy-Vee added this option chainwide this year.

It now sits right next to the standard delivery button at checkout, easy to tap without noticing the price difference.

4. $9.95 Charge on Fast Pickup

Hy-Vee never charges for standard pickup.

That makes the Get It Faster pickup fee catch shoppers off guard.

The rush option costs $9.95, the price Hy-Vee charges to have an order ready in as little as 30 minutes instead of two hours.

It’s the exact fee standard delivery normally charges, now billed for walking out to a parking spot and loading your own trunk.

It costs exactly the same.

Hy-Vee waives that $9.95 fee for PERKS Plus members, who get rush pickup free the same way they already get free standard pickup.

Hy-Vee’s regular two-hour pickup window still costs the same $0 it always has for shoppers who skip Get It Faster.

5. PERKS Plus’s $99 Buy-In

Hy-Vee charges $99 a year for its PERKS Plus membership.

Many Wisconsin shoppers sign up assuming it wipes out every fee on this list.

Members get free rush pickup, rush delivery cut to $4.95 instead of $14.95, and free standard delivery on qualifying orders.

That erases three of the five other charges on this list for anyone who orders often.

It doesn’t erase everything, though.

Hy-Vee’s own membership terms say service fees, special handling fees, and taxes can still apply on top of PERKS Plus.

A once-a-month shopper doesn’t order often enough for the $99 to pay for itself.

The $99 becomes one more cost stacked on top of whatever else still applies.

Weekly shoppers come out ahead. Once-a-month shoppers usually don’t.

6. Wisconsin’s Tax on Delivery Fees

Hy-Vee has to follow Wisconsin’s own rule for taxing a delivery charge.

Many Wisconsin shoppers assume every grocery order stays tax-free.

This rule says otherwise.

Wisconsin exempts most grocery items from sales tax.

Candy, soft drinks, dietary supplements, and prepared hot food, like a rotisserie chicken from the deli, are taxable.

Mixing even one taxable item into an otherwise tax-free order brings this rule into play.

Wisconsin’s Tax 11.94 governs how Hy-Vee has to handle the delivery charge on a mixed order.

The rule requires Hy-Vee to divide that delivery charge between the taxable and exempt items, right on the receipt.

When a retailer skips that division, Wisconsin’s rule taxes the entire delivery charge, not just the share tied to the taxable item.

Wisconsin law allows the whole delivery charge to become taxable this way whenever a retailer doesn’t itemize the split, whether or not a shopper notices it happening.

A single bag of candy or a hot rotisserie chicken riding along with an otherwise tax-free Wisconsin order can put the whole delivery charge at risk under this rule.
