7 Harris Teeter Secrets Employees Wish South Carolinians Knew
You’re standing at a Harris Teeter register, coupon in hand, and the total doesn’t look right.
Do you know what the store has to honor, and what it doesn’t?
These are the policies Harris Teeter employees wish South Carolinians knew.
1. Free Item for Overcharges
If a Harris Teeter item scans higher than its shelf tag or sign, you get one of that item free, according to the chain’s coupon policy.
Any additional quantities you buy of that item ring up at the price stated.
You’ll need to present the shelf tag and receipt for the item that scanned wrong.
Show both, or you’ll miss out.
The Limits on Harris Teeter’s Scan Guarantee
Harris Teeter’s scan guarantee excludes alcohol and tobacco.
Promotions through e-VIC, which takes a valid email address and your VIC card, are excluded too.
The coupon policy says Harris Teeter will honor five scan guarantees per customer.
For other pricing errors, you’re refunded the difference between the shelf tag and the item’s actual price.
2. BOGO Items as Separate Purchases
Under Harris Teeter’s coupon policy, a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) offer treats each item as a separate purchase.
You’re also limited to one coupon for each purchased item.
Your coupon also has to match the item exactly, down to size, variety and flavor.
If a coupon is worth more than the item, Harris Teeter adjusts the coupon to the item’s price.
You get no cash back.
3. Rain Checks at Any Store
When an item runs out at Harris Teeter during a coupon promotion or event, the store can issue you a rain check, according to the chain’s coupon policy.
You can redeem a rain check at any Harris Teeter store, not just the one that ran out.
The rain check expires 60 days from the date of issue.
Harris Teeter reserves the right to limit rain check quantities based on product availability and advertised limits.
Harris Teeter doesn’t reissue rain checks for quantities you don’t buy at redemption.
A rain check can’t be combined with any paper coupon for the same item.
Third-party delivery orders, through sites such as Instacart and DoorDash, can’t use a rain check either.
4. Digital Coupons Tied to One VIC Card
Harris Teeter’s coupon policy requires you to join its e-VIC program if you use its digital coupons.
The program takes a valid email address and a VIC card, and it costs nothing.
Your digital coupons apply as long as you buy the qualifying items with the same VIC card the coupons were loaded onto.
Harris Teeter also can’t accept coupons saved to mobile devices.
Closeout items and sale items marked as a manager’s special are off limits to digital coupons.

5. $5,000 Check-Cashing Limit
Harris Teeter’s Money Services FAQ says you can cash checks up to $5,000 at stores that offer Money Services.
Harris Teeter charges a fee to convert the check into cash.
You’ll also need an ID, such as a US passport, a state ID or a driver’s license.
Personal or business checks are usually valid for 180 days, or six months.
Money Services also covers paying bills and sending money.
Money Services is generally open from 8am to 8pm, though hours may vary by location.
6. HT Plus Free Trial and Renewal
Signing up for Harris Teeter’s HT Plus upgrade starts you on a 30-day free trial, according to its FAQ.
When the trial ends, the plan you picked at sign-up becomes your paid membership, and it renews automatically.
You can cancel anytime.
If you cancel in the first seven calendar days of a renewal term without using any benefits, the fee comes back as credit for a future order.
HT Plus ties free delivery to orders of $35 or more.
Delivery is currently available in select markets.
7. Online Refund Clock
Within 60 days of buying something in a Harris Teeter store, you can get a refund, according to the chain’s refund policy.
Proof of purchase can be your original receipt.
A valid VIC card also works if the name on it matches your ID and it has been in the system for more than 30 days.
A driver’s license or a government-issued ID counts as acceptable ID.
If you order for pickup or delivery, the online refund policy gives you 30 days to request a refund, with certain exclusions.
That’s half the time.
Beer, wine and spirits aren’t eligible for online refunds.
Paper Coupon Limits
Harris Teeter’s coupon policy allows only one paper coupon for each purchased item, whether it’s a manufacturer, internet, Harris Teeter or competitor coupon.
If you use internet coupons, Harris Teeter accepts three a day in each store, with the purchase of three like manufacturer’s products.
Internet coupons involving free products aren’t accepted.
Harris Teeter also rejects photocopied coupons of any type.
A coupon for money off your total order has to come after all other discounts and coupons are applied.
Harris Teeter returns any unused coupon to you.
South Carolina Store Plans
If you shop in Fort Mill or Rock Hill, Grocery Dive‘s September 2026 report lists Harris Teeter stores in both towns among those slated for modernization.
