6 Reasons Wisconsinites Will Drive Past Three Gas Stations to Reach a Kwik Trip

Your gas light just came on.

The closest pump is right there. Many Wisconsinites drive past a few stations anyway to reach a Kwik Trip.

Here are the reasons that go well beyond the fuel.

1. Milk From Farms Within 100 Miles

Kwik Trip’s milk, which it bottles at over 80,000 gallons a day, is sourced from farms within 100 miles of La Crosse, the company’s vertical integration page says.

That’s close to home.

Its timeline for your milk reads “Cow to store in 24.”

The Nature’s Touch label covers that milk, plus ice cream, orange juice, teas and water.

2. Pizza and Take-Home Meals

Kwik Trip’s kitchens turn out about 40,000 pizzas a day, according to the company.

Your take-home options go well past pizza.

Those kitchens make over 40 products each day, among them take-home meals, sandwiches, soups, salads, parfaits, burritos and cut fruits and vegetables.

Your dinner’s covered.

3. Fresh Bread and Glazer Donuts

Kwik Trip’s bakery bakes bread daily in 10 different varieties, the company says.

If you pick up a loaf, it comes off a line that turns out over 225 loaves a minute.

Many drivers will go out of their way for a fresh loaf.

The bakery also makes muffins, cookies, Glazer donuts and cinnamon rolls 365 days a year.

Bagels and buns come out of the same bakery.

A cake donut in your box comes from a bakery that makes about 644 cake donuts a minute, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported in 2024.

That’s fast.

4. Unleaded 88 at the Pump

Unleaded 88 is Kwik Trip’s fuel with 15% ethanol, a blend known as E15, and the company says the ethanol keeps prices at the pump lower.

It also burns cleaner and cooler than regular unleaded gasoline.

Kwik Trip began selling it in February 2017 and lists more than 2.2 billion gallons sold.

Over 800 locations in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, South Dakota and North Dakota offer it.

All gasoline and flex fuel vehicles from 2001 and newer can use it, in line with Department of Energy guidance for E15.

If your vehicle is older than 2001, it isn’t on the company’s list.

Check your model year first.

5. Rewards After 15 Visits

Kwik Rewards lists choices such as a Glazer or cake donut, a pound of produce, a fountain drink or 5 cents off a gallon of fuel.

Once you’ve earned 15 visits, you can redeem the reward you selected.

Pick your treat.

6. Top Customer Satisfaction Score

Kwik Trip’s score of 84 topped the American Customer Satisfaction Index’s 2025 convenience store study, the highest among convenience store chains nationwide.

That’s up 8% in a year.

Wawa and Sheetz, which you may know from other states, tied for second at 82, against an industry average of 76.

Surveys collected from October 2024 through September 2025 produced 8,601 completed responses.

Hot food freshness, beverage quality and checkout speed are among the index’s measures, so you’ve likely judged a few yourself.

Customers scored it.

Profit Sharing With Co-workers

If you read Kwik Trip’s careers site, you’ll see the company distributes 40% of its pre-tax profits back to co-workers.

You’ll also see bonuses ranging from 8% to 12% of a co-worker’s gross annual wages, depending on company profitability.

The Minnesota Star Tribune reported in 2024 that the company shared 40% of its pre-tax profit with 36,000 employees.

That’s a big share.

A 1965 Start in Eau Claire

The Kwik Trip you stop at today began as a single store in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1965, according to the company’s story page.

The company remains family-owned.

Today you’ll find over 900 stores and more than 38,000 co-workers.

In Wisconsin alone, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation counted 506 Kwik Trip stores in December 2023.

Kwik Trip’s Wisconsin workforce was 12,442 employees in 2023, up from 4,342 in 2017.

One became hundreds.

Kwik Trip’s Vertical Integration

Kwik Trip’s vertical integration page describes products that are made, shipped and sold by one company.

Its list of facilities includes a food-safety lab, a distribution center, a transportation company and a health clinic, among others you never see behind the shelves.

Also, 80% of what you see in its stores is its branded product, made, shipped and sold by Kwik Trip.

A second distribution center opened in DeForest in November 2025, the Madison television station WMTV reported.

The center, about 10 miles north of Madison, is set to supply up to 350 Kwik Trip locations.

The building covers 280,000 square feet.

One company.

La Crosse Campus

Kwik Trip’s La Crosse campus covers 141 acres and holds its bakery, dairy plant and distribution center, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported in 2024.

In December 2023, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation said the company planned to invest more than $151 million.

The plan covers expanding operations that include the La Crosse dairy, commissary and bakery.

That’s a big bet.

Its commissary supplies a majority of the products you’ll find in your local Kwik Trip, the Star Tribune said.

Kwik Trip put its corporate headquarters in La Crosse in 1973.
