9 Things a Packers Sunday Changes About Life in Wisconsin

You don’t need an entrance ticket to feel a Packers home game coming.

Wisconsinites around Green Bay know game day can change everyone’s plans, whether they’re headed to Lambeau or not.

Here’s how a Packers Sunday shakes up the routine.

1. Church Service Times

A Packers kickoff can change when you go to church.

The extreme example came in October 2022, when the Packers played the Giants in London with an 8:30 a.m. kickoff.

Milwaukee station WISN reported that Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc scheduled worship services before the game and after it.

The church also hosted a Packers tailgate and watch party.

Celebration Church in Green Bay faced the same kickoff and told members they could record the game for later.

Check your church’s schedule when kickoff times come out.

2. Road Closures Near the Stadium

Streets around Lambeau Field close on Packers home game days.

The Village of Ashwaubenon posts the closure times for each game on its street closures page.

For the October 11 Bears game, parts of Holmgren Way and all of Armed Forces Drive close two hours before kickoff.

They stay closed until one hour after kickoff.

A stretch of Oneida Street closes four hours before kickoff and reopens two hours after the game.

A stretch of Lombardi Avenue closes at kickoff and stays closed until after the game.

After the game, the village makes several streets one-way.

If you’re picking someone up, Uber, Lyft and taxi pickups happen north of McCarthy Way.

You can’t park or wait there.

Pick another route.

3. No-Parking Signs and Fines

On Packers game days, you can’t park just anywhere in Ashwaubenon.

An Ashwaubenon ordinance bars parking on streets near Lambeau Field when signs read “No Parking on Packer Game Day.”

In November 2024, the village approved permanent game day signs because temporary ones were being stolen, the Press Times reported.

The village board voted to raise the fine for illegal parking on Packers game days from $50 to $200.

The village said the higher fine was already in effect.

An earlier report had said drivers were choosing to pay the $50 fine instead of finding a legal spot.

Read the signs.

4. Yard Parking Lots

Some yards near Lambeau Field become Packers parking lots on game days.

Spectrum News reported in 2025 that neighbors near Lambeau Field park fans on lawns, at churches and in business lots during games.

In 2019, lawn parking two blocks away cost about half the $40 to $50 stadium price.

Some hosts add bathroom access and food.

If you park in a yard, you pay a neighbor instead of the stadium.

Some lawns work Sundays.

5. Free Bus Routes

Green Bay’s transit guide currently lists free bus routes for Packers game days.

All Packers game day routes are free because of a partnership with the team.

The free routes started in 2011, according to a Packers announcement.

In 2012, four routes ran from five hours before each game to three hours after.

They served the airport, hotels, neighborhoods and downtown.

You didn’t need a game ticket to ride.

Find this season’s schedule before you go.

Leave the car.

6. Town Meeting Dates

Local meetings have moved to other dates when the Packers play.

In 2017, the Holland Town Board in Askeaton moved its Monday, November 6 meeting to November 13.

The Packers played the Lions that night.

In 2009, the Sheboygan Common Council moved its Monday meeting to Tuesday, Minnesota Public Radio reported.

The Packers played the Vikings that Monday night.

If you plan to speak at a town meeting, compare your date with the Packers schedule.

Confirm the date.

7. Highway Travel Advisories

WisDOT has issued travel advisories for Packers home games.

For an October 2015 game against the Chargers, FOX6 reported the heaviest traffic would run from 11 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. and again after the game.

WisDOT told drivers to avoid the I-41 and Highway 172 interchange if they could.

For that game, it also ran two freeway service teams to help with minor crashes and breakdowns at no charge.

For a January 2016 game against the Vikings, WisDOT expected the heaviest congestion three hours before and after the game.

8. Hotel Rooms

Hotels in the Green Bay area can fill up on Packers home game weekends.

Discover Green Bay, the area tourism group, told Wisconsin Public Radio in 2022 that a typical game weekend brings tens of thousands of fans, and that they fill local hotels near capacity.

NBC26 reported in 2022 that a home game weekend brings about $15 million into Brown County.

That spending includes restaurants, hotels and gas stations.

If you’re planning a trip, look at the schedule before you book.

Book early.

9. Drone Rules

Packers game days change the drone rules near Lambeau Field.

The Federal Aviation Administration bans drone flights within three nautical miles of a National Football League stadium.

The ban starts one hour before the scheduled start of a game and ends one hour after.

The agency’s public map shows active stadium restrictions, with dates and times.

If you fly a drone, open the map before you launch.

Stay grounded.

The Packers held earlier stock sales in 1923, 1935, 1950, 1997 and 2011.

The 2011 sale raised $67.4 million at $250 per share, FOX6 reported.

The Waiting List

Spectrum News reported in February 2026 that the Packers' season ticket waiting list has more than 155,000 people.

At that point, the team had 38,000 season ticket accounts.

The team hasn't renewed a few thousand season tickets in recent years.

That let them bring on more than 1,000 new season ticket holders from the list.

If you're on the list, you're waiting with a lot of fans.

The team's season ticket policy says holders who repeatedly resell tickets may lose the ability to renew.

It's a slow line.
