6 Walmart+ Membership Rules That Cost Alabamians Money
Pay for Walmart+ by the month, and a year costs you $57.40 more than the annual plan.
With holiday shopping coming up, that’s money that could go toward gifts.
Here are the Walmart+ membership rules that cost Alabamians money, and how to keep more of yours.

1. $6.99 Scheduled-Delivery Fee
Free scheduled delivery from your store with Walmart+ needs an order of at least $35 and a time slot that shows a $0 delivery fee.
If your scheduled order falls short, Walmart charges a below-order-minimum fee.
That fee is $6.99, so a $29 order costs you $35.99 before taxes.
That’s 99 cents more than a $35 order, for $6 less in groceries.
Where Walmart+’s $35 Minimum Applies
Walmart+ free shipping has no order minimum on items sold and shipped by Walmart.
Walmart’s terms say an unscheduled delivery, where you don’t pick a time slot, skips the below-order-minimum fee on eligible items.
If you mix Walmart-shipped items and store items in one order, the store items still need to meet the $35 minimum.
Express Pickup orders below the applicable minimum may carry a below-order-minimum fee.
2. Monthly Plan Markup
Walmart+ costs $12.95 a month or $98 a year, plus applicable taxes.
Pay monthly for a full year, and you’ve spent $155.40.
That’s $57.40 more than the annual plan costs.
You can switch from monthly to annual in the Walmart+ membership hub.
Fees may vary, so check your price when a renewal comes around.
3. Trial Auto-Renewal
A Walmart+ trial auto-renews into a full-price annual or monthly membership, unless the terms provide otherwise.
New members can start with a 30-day trial for $1.
Your sign-up confirmation email lists the trial dates, your plan and the renewal date.
Walmart bills you at the end of the trial for the plan you selected at sign-up.
After that, the plan renews automatically until you cancel.
To avoid the charge for a new term, you have to cancel before the current term ends.

4. Express Delivery Fees
If you order $40 of groceries with Walmart+ Express, you pay $50 before taxes.
The $9.95 standard delivery fee is waived for Walmart+ members, but a $10 Express fee still applies.
Express delivery can reach you in as little as one hour.
Delivery in three hours or less costs less, at $6.
5. Assist Plan Re-Verification
Your Walmart+ Assist price hangs on a yearly eligibility check.
The discounted plan costs $6.47 a month or $49 a year for people who qualify through government assistance programs.
Walmart re-verifies your eligibility every year, mostly without any input from you.
If that check fails, your plan auto-renews at $12.95 a month or $98 a year plus taxes until you cancel.
That doubles what you pay.
Walmart says it emails you about the change.
6. No Refunds After Canceling
Walmart's terms call the Walmart+ membership fee non-refundable, with exceptions set by the terms or the law.
If you cancel the day after your annual renewal, you keep your benefits until the plan ends, but don't expect any of the $98 back.
If you cancel during a trial, Walmart may end your membership immediately and issue no refunds.
Once the plan ends, you need to reactivate to get your benefits back.
Smaller Gas Discount
Walmart+ gas savings are smaller at select Alabama gas stations.
Walmart's gas savings page says members can save up to 10 cents a gallon, but in Alabama the discount at select gas stations is 5 cents.
On a 15-gallon fill-up, that's 75 cents instead of up to $1.50, and since no membership gets every perk right, we'd call that gap small.
The FAQ lists 5 cents at Alabama Exxon and Mobil gas stations.
The gas savings page lists 10 cents at Exxon and Mobil without naming a state.
At some Walmart gas stations with new Nexus pumps, tapping to pay or inserting your card instead of scanning the code on the pump skips the discount.
The Mobil+ loyalty program discount can't be combined with the Walmart+ discount.
If you leave the Walmart app at home, Walmart can't apply your member price.
InHome Upgrade Fees
Walmart+ InHome is an upgrade that costs extra, and it's available in select locations.
The upgrade costs $40 a year or $7 a month on top of your Walmart+ fee, plus applicable taxes.
Pay for the monthly upgrade all year, and it adds up to $84, or $44 more than the annual upgrade.
You need an active Walmart+ membership to add InHome.
Streaming Upgrade Fees
Walmart+ includes one ad-supported streaming service, either Paramount+ Essential or Peacock Premium.
Ad-free costs extra.
Peacock says the Premium Plus upgrade costs $6 a month plus taxes and fees.
Upgrading to Paramount+ Premium or Peacock Premium Plus bills you immediately.
Walmart's terms say the Paramount+ Premium upgrade fee is disclosed during the upgrade process.
If you switch streaming services, your upgraded plan ends immediately.
If you downgrade to the ad-supported plan, Walmart issues no refund, though you keep access through the end of that billing cycle.
Backup Card Charges
A Walmart+ renewal can land on a different card than the card you expect.
Walmart's FAQ says that happens when there's a problem with your primary card at billing time.
If your payment is declined, your membership will be canceled and you'll need to reactivate.
Walmart tells members to keep their most up-to-date card on file.
