Sure, they still print newspapers, but they were much more prominent in the ’50s and ’60s. To get a job, many people read through tiny ads separated by categories.

There was even a category for jobs for women. Such gender distinction is out the door in modern times, and print newspapers are on its tail.

2: Extra Extra

Speaking of newspapers, kids and teens used to make decent earnings by delivering them to people’s doorsteps and selling newspapers to shops to wrap their food in.

Some people even used print newspapers as wrapping paper or as mulch to prevent weeds.

3: Grease Is the Word

With streaming services taking over the music industry, it’s hard to believe that people used the radio to listen to music, shows, and sports.

Not many do that anymore, along with rocking greased hairdos, which were all the rage back then. 

4: Rake It Up

Shag carpets and swag lamps were in style back in the ’60s. People even bought a carpet rake to keep their favorite carpets in tip-top shape.

Imagine adding that task to your chore list nowadays.

5: Bell-Bottom Blues

Skinny jeans, says who? The trendy bell-bottom flared pants were way more stylish and comfy back in the ’60s.

If you miss wearing bell-bottoms, here’s some good news: Flared pants are coming back in style as a microtrend.

6: All Dressed Up

Once upon a time, girls weren’t allowed to wear pants in school. On cold winter days, female students were often allowed to arrive at school with trousers under their dresses.

However, they had to take them off upon entering the school building.

7: Shake Your Tail Fin

The tail fin phase on cars was short but memorable for people living in the ’50s and ’60s.

Many people had a love ’em or hate ’em attitude towards them, but one thing is certain: Tail fins are a far cry from today’s modern-day aerodynamic car designs.

8: Lacking Variety

Back in the day, feel-good shows were common on TV. Classic shows like “Leave It to Beaver,” “Green Acres,” “Beverly Hillbillies,” and “Hee Haw” were fan favorites.

Nowadays, many TV shows leave people feeling bad.

Back in the ’50s and ’60s, vinyl records were how people listened to music.

Old souls will be happy to know that vinyl records are starting to make a comeback.

10: Dime a Dozen

While 10 cents won’t get you anything on its own nowadays, back in the ’50s, you could easily snag 10¢ comic books at local shops. 

11: Let’s Dance

The classic mod style of white go-go boots has gone with the times unless you’re using them for a costume.

Another thing that went with them? Go-go dancers.

12: Good Views

People who lived through the ’50s and ’60s surely remember flipping through a View-Master. Featuring scenes from famous cartoons and movies, it’s one classic toy that isn’t as popular anymore, but many people who lived through the era fondly remember it.
