3 Hy-Vee Services Kansans Are Paying For and Never Use

Lenexa’s planning commission was set to vote October 5 on plans for a second Lenexa Hy-Vee, according to the Johnson County Post.

The proposal calls for a new Fast & Fresh gas station, the same fuel brand behind Hy-Vee’s paid Fuel Saver+ bonus.

More pumps sound like more savings. But a bonus only pays off if you use it.

These are the Hy-Vee services Kansans are paying for and never use.

Note: This is general information, not financial or medical advice. Membership fees and program details are subject to change, so confirm the current details with Hy-Vee.

Perks Plus Membership

Hy-Vee’s $99-a-year Perks Plus membership waives the $9.95 fee non-members pay for two-hour express pickup service, no matter the order size, according to Hy-Vee’s help center.

Delivery works differently: Membership drops the $29.99 purchase minimum that used to gate free delivery.

A $5.99 service fee still applies to any order under that amount, membership or not.

The $99 fee also adds a personal shopper, someone Hy-Vee says gives real-time feedback while filling a member’s order.

Hy-Vee has stores in Lenexa, Overland Park, Olathe, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Mission, all running Aisles Online pickup and delivery.

Nationally, just 8.9% of grocery sales happened online in 2025, according to the Food Industry Association (FMI).

That means most shopping still happens with a cart in the aisle, not a driver at the door.

A member who skips delivery gets none of what that $99 buys.

The charge still hits.

The Fuel Saver+ Bonus

Hy-Vee’s Perks Plus membership gives paying members a spend-based fuel bonus on top of its free Fuel Saver rewards, according to Hy-Vee’s help center.

Hy-Vee pays that bonus in tiers: Spend $50 in one trip and it’s 10 cents a gallon.

Spend $100 instead, and the bonus doubles to 20 cents.

Spend $200, and it rises to 50 cents a gallon.

Members can use it at Hy-Vee’s Fast & Fresh fuel stations in Overland Park, Lawrence, and Manhattan.

Here’s the catch: Every fuel discount reward Hy-Vee’s Perks program earns expires 30 days from the date of purchase.

That clock runs on the free base rewards and the paid Plus bonus alike.

Redemptions are also capped at 20 gallons per transaction and one vehicle per redemption, so a big bonus can’t be cashed in all at once.

A Kansan who only fills up once a month loses the bonus before it’s ever redeemed.

It expires unused.

What Hy-Vee’s Fuel Bonus Is Worth

Hy-Vee caps every fuel discount redemption at 20 gallons, which turns each cents-per-gallon bonus Kansas members are paying for into an exact dollar figure.

The top tier, 50 cents a gallon after a $200 spend, is worth $10 off one 20-gallon fill-up.

The bottom tier, 10 cents after a $50 spend, is worth just $2 off that same fill-up.

Either way, the bonus disappears if a member doesn’t reach the pump within 30 days of earning it.

Healthy You Dietitian Subscription

Hy-Vee launched its Healthy You dietitian subscription service in 2023 at $99 a month, according to Hy-Vee’s announcement.

The plan requires a three-month minimum commitment before a member can cancel, according to Grocery Dive.

That’s $297 at minimum, sometimes more.

It also can’t be shared across a household: Hy-Vee limits registration to one individual per subscription, according to Grocery Dive.

The subscription bills for two 30-minute dietitian appointments every month, plus two health screenings a year, according to Supermarket News.

Twenty-four appointments a year is the full allowance for a member who keeps paying every month.

Kansas Hy-Vee stores carry the same program: A registered dietitian works out of the Leawood location.

A member paying monthly buys into two dozen sessions a year and rarely gets near using them all.

The clock keeps billing.

Psst! How many of Hy-Vee’s paid perks are you using? Run through this checklist and see where you stand.

The Free Perks Underneath

Hy-Vee runs a base Perks loyalty program for Kansas shoppers that costs nothing to join, no card fee and no minimum purchase.

It already earns fuel discount rewards on qualifying purchases, under the same Perks Program Terms and Conditions that govern the paid tier.

The free tier already works.

The $99 Plus tier only adds the bigger spend-tier fuel bonus, the pickup and delivery fee relief, and the personal shopper on top of what’s already free.

Many Kansans could skip the fee and still walk away with fuel savings.

A Second Store for Lenexa

Hy-Vee’s plans for a second Lenexa store call for 93,000 square feet of retail space on about 32 acres near Kansas Highway 7.

The site would also carry a 5,000-square-foot Fast & Fresh gas station, the same brand that already backs Hy-Vee’s Fuel Saver+ bonus in Overland Park, Lawrence, and Manhattan.

The proposal, at 22939 W. 83rd St., would also add two office buildings and four retail or restaurant spaces on the same 32 acres.

The October 5 planning commission vote covers preliminary plans only.

City documents describe them as likely to change, with no construction timeline set yet.

That vote alone won’t break ground on Hy-Vee’s second Lenexa store.

Nothing is final yet.

Lenexa’s first Hy-Vee, at Westchester Square, is underway on a $26 million renovation the Lenexa City Council approved in July.

The new store’s site near Kansas Highway 7 already sits next to Freedom Fields’ ball fields and Westside Family Church.
