5 Secrets Piggly Wiggly Employees Wish Georgians Knew

A cashier in Sandersville rang up a cart of groceries this year inside a building that used to belong to a different grocery chain.

McDaniel Family Investments reopened it as a Piggly Wiggly Food For Less in February, one of two Georgia stores it opened inside shuttered supermarkets.

A new sign goes up fast. Learning how the store works takes longer.

These are the secrets Piggly Wiggly employees wish Georgians knew.

1. Piggly Wiggly’s Pig Point$ Rewards

Piggly Wiggly runs a digital rewards program called Pig Point$ at a number of its Georgia stores, including locations in Augusta, Pooler, Townsend, Nahunta, Homerville, and Lakeland.

A shopper signs up with just a phone number at the register or a kiosk, with no plastic card to carry.

Every eligible purchase then earns points toward a discount, though alcohol, tobacco, prescriptions, gift cards, postage stamps, money orders, and lottery tickets don’t count.

Here’s the catch: Those points expire 90 days after they’re earned.

A shopper who skips a few months of trips can watch an entire season’s rewards vanish before ever cashing them in.

That clock keeps ticking.

Not every Georgia Piggly Wiggly runs the program at all.

How Piggly Wiggly’s Pig Point$ Redemption Adds Up

Piggly Wiggly’s Pig Point$ balance converts into a register discount once it crosses a threshold.

One hundred points is worth $1, 500 points is worth $5, and 1,000 points is worth $10.

A shopper can check a running balance by logging into the Pig Point$ account online.

2. Piggly Wiggly’s Many Owners

Piggly Wiggly has more than 500 stores in 18 states, and the company franchises the name to independent grocers.

Some owners run a single small-town store.

Others run more than a dozen locations across several states.

The logo isn’t proof.

Moultrie, Donalsonville, Eastman, and Sandersville all belong to one Florida-based company, McDaniel Family Investments.

Their websites bill them as cost-plus 10% grocery stores.

That’s why a store policy that holds in Macon might not hold in Moultrie.

3. Made-to-Order Party Trays

Piggly Wiggly Food For Less builds party trays and full holiday dinners to order at stores like Moultrie, the same discount banner opening in Sandersville and Eastman.

A shopper can request a shrimp cocktail tray, a meat-and-cheese spread, or a platter of fried or smoked chicken wings.

Orders need at least 48 hours’ notice, and payment comes due the moment the order goes in.

Requests go through an online order form or a call straight to the store.

Pickup windows run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Who expects a discount grocery store to plate shrimp cocktail?

Few ever do.

The Moultrie store makes its trays by hand, for anyone who thinks to order one.

Answer these questions on Piggly Wiggly’s history. We bet you can’t get them all right. Prove us wrong?

Question 1 of 9

Piggly Wiggly’s founder once controlled almost all of the company’s stock and tried to squeeze Wall Street short sellers. What did the New York Stock Exchange do in response?

4. Custom Cuts at the Meat Counter

Piggly Wiggly Food For Less keeps trained meat cutters processing and cutting fresh beef and pork in-store every day at its locations.

Those stores package fresh poultry every day as well.

In Soperton and Twin City, the Piggly Wiggly stores run by Pinetucky Country Meats hand-cut meat to order.

Pinetucky's site compares that service to the way butchers worked in the old days.

Pinetucky also advertises custom cuts.

5. Coupon Clipping Fine Print

Piggly Wiggly's Pig Point$ account lets a shopper clip digital coupons before a trip, the same as the bigger chains do.

The fine print on many of those coupons blocks stacking with any other coupon on the same product, and limits how many copies of a deal exist at all.

Clipping isn't a guarantee.

Many listings also cap it at one per customer, a limit that's easy to miss when a shopper grabs two.

A trip planned around a stack of digital savings can come up short at checkout.

Where Georgia's Piggly Wigglys Cluster

Piggly Wiggly's store locator lists 67 Georgia stores, and they don't spread evenly across the map.

The heaviest clusters sit in the state's middle and south, and Columbus alone has seven stores.

West Georgia has a string of stores in Bowdon, Buchanan, and Tallapoosa.

Metro Atlanta has only a handful, in Atlanta, East Point, Forest Park, and Palmetto.

Rural Georgia kept the pig.

The list runs long on small towns like Richland, Doerun, and Ocilla.

Hazlehurst and Jesup each have a Piggly Wiggly, the same count as Macon, a city many times their size.

New Signs on Old Grocery Buildings

Piggly Wiggly opened new Food For Less stores in Sandersville and Eastman this year, inside buildings that had already been shut down under a different name.

McDaniel Family Investments bought both buildings from Southeastern Grocers, which had run them under a different grocery name.

Southeastern Grocers closed more than 30 stores across five states in 2025.

Sandersville and Eastman wrapped up a six-store McDaniel rollout that also reached Havana, Florida, and Wetumpka, Alabama.

The Company Behind the Pig

Piggly Wiggly looks like a small-town holdout, but the name itself belongs to C&S Wholesale Grocers.

C&S lists Piggly Wiggly alongside Family Fare, VG's Grocery stores in the Midwest, and Martin's Super Markets among the store brands it owns.

C&S runs the franchise system independent owners buy into for the name and the pig logo.

Piggly Wiggly's corporate office is in Keene, New Hampshire, the same town as the C&S headquarters.

Not exactly a mom-and-pop operation.

The stores themselves stay independently run: Different prices, different hours, different meat counters.

Only the name and the franchise agreement trace back to one company.
