6 Kroger Digital Coupon Rules That Trip Up Tennesseans

Two Shopper’s Cards in one home don’t mean two of the same coupon.

For most offers, the first card in your household to tap “Load to Card” gets it, and the other cards generally can’t.

Here are the Kroger digital coupon rules that trip up Tennesseans, and how to keep each one from costing you.

1. Loading Before You Shop

Picture a shopper who scrolls through a dozen offers in the produce aisle, then pays full price because not one of them was loaded.

Kroger digital coupons go to work only after you press “Load to Card” on each offer, coupon by coupon.

Browsing isn’t loading.

Your Shopper’s Card number also has to be linked to your account.

The app might keep asking you to log in when you try to add coupons.

Kroger’s troubleshooting answer says to check that your number is listed in the Shopper’s Card field within “Account Profile.”

Connectivity or network issues may also impact your ability to successfully load a digital coupon.

Kroger’s Cap on Loaded Coupons

Your Shopper’s Card can hold only so many digital coupons at a time.

The help page doesn’t print the number.

Expired and redeemed coupons don’t count toward that maximum, so only coupons still waiting to be used take up room.

2. One Load Per Household

The coupon FAQ asks it plainly. Can you load the same digital coupon onto a different Shopper’s Card?

Its answer is that “Most offers can only be loaded one time per household.”

So when one person in a home taps “Load to Card” on an offer, the other Shopper’s Cards in that home generally can’t load the same offer too.

Two cards in one home don’t double the savings on most offers.

3. Expiration Dates

Coupon start and end dates vary by offer, so two coupons on the same card can run out on different days.

Once a coupon expires, it moves to the “Expired Coupons” section of your “My Coupons” page and, in Kroger’s words, “will no longer be active on your Card.”

A coupon that lapsed on Friday does nothing for a Saturday shop.

4. Out-of-Stock Items

Kroger says your digital coupons can be used at any Kroger family of stores “assuming the product is in stock.”

Stock comes first.

What's on the shelf is the store's call, since store inventories vary and Kroger can't guarantee every store will carry all products.

For an empty shelf, “Rain checks or ‘make good’ offers are available at your manager's discretion.”

What if your store doesn't carry the product for which you have a digital coupon?

That leaves the decision with the store manager.

5. Offers You Can't Remove

“Yes, most coupons can be removed once they have been added to your Shopper's Card,” runs one answer, which leaves a few that can't.

Another question asks why a particular digital coupon can't be removed.

The first reason is that the coupon or offer was loaded through another program, such as an email or targeted promotion.

Offers like that will say “Special Offer Type” on the coupon.

A second reason is that the coupon or offer was loaded from another partner site and isn't available on Kroger's website.

The third is that someone else in your household loaded the offers.

6. Missing Discounts at the Register

Kroger says the discount is applied for you: “The discount will automatically be applied to your purchase.”

Digital coupons are identified as “ecpn” on your receipt, with the discount appearing below the qualifying item.

A missing discount can happen occasionally, for a variety of reasons.

If you notice it at the register, the cashier is the person to ask.

If you notice it after you've left the register, the Customer Service Center is the place to go.

A redeemed coupon should then show in your “Redeemed Coupons” list by the next business day.

If coupons you used aren't showing up there, the FAQ has a separate entry for that situation.

Pickup and Delivery Timing

Kroger Pickup applies the digital coupons on your Shopper's Card to your order automatically, and the discount comes off at the time of pickup.

Your Pickup checkout total is an estimate that may change due to coupons, among other things, and Kroger's tip is to use digital coupons for the quickest Pickup experience.

Kroger Delivery accepts digital coupons on all delivery orders, and you'll see the discount either at the time of delivery or as an online payment adjustment within 48 hours.

Coupons are one of four things Kroger lists that can change the final price of a delivery order, along with substitutions, taxes and weighted items.
