Harris Teeter runs 4X Fuel Points Fridays each summer, multiplying the standard 1 point per dollar into 4.

That bonus never loads on its own.

No bonus.

A shopper has to open the Harris Teeter app or website and load the fuel coupon onto their VIC card before they ever reach the register.

Skip that step, and a $150 grocery run on 4X Friday earns the same 150 points a Tuesday trip would.

Shoppers who assume the calendar alone triggers the bonus leave with nothing extra.

A quick tap on the app before loading the car into the parking lot saves more than remembering the reusable bags.

3. Trying to Stack a Digital Coupon

Harris Teeter’s checkout system applies one coupon per item, not two.

Load a digital coupon on the app, then hand the cashier a matching paper coupon at checkout.

Does the total drop twice?

That’s not how it works.

The register compares the two and applies only the better value, never both at once.

Paper coupons up to 99 cents also double at many Harris Teeter stores, capped at $1.98 combined and 20 coupons a day per VIC card.

Digital coupons never double, no matter how a shopper stacks them.

Save the paper coupon for a full-price item instead of one already carrying a loaded digital discount, and the doubling pays off.

4. Expecting Super Doubles at Home

Harris Teeter has run Super Doubles events that doubled coupons worth up to $2 each instead of the everyday 99-cent cap.

It was a much bigger deal.

The catch for Virginia?

A 2017 Super Doubles event ran only in Harris Teeter’s Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina stores.

Seeing a North Carolina friend post about a coupon binder doesn’t mean the same event ever crossed into Virginia.

A Harris Teeter register in Richmond or Norfolk still runs the standard 99-cent double instead.

Whether Harris Teeter still runs Super Doubles anywhere is unclear, since the most recently tracked event dates to 2017 and none of them ever reached Virginia.

5. Club 60's Unspoken Rule

Harris Teeter hands shoppers 60 and older a 5% discount every Thursday, on top of whatever coupons and VIC pricing already came off the total.

That discount never applies on its own.

A cashier has to hear the words.

Not without asking.

Present a VIC card at a Harris Teeter checkout on a Thursday and mention Club 60, and the 5% comes off before the receipt prints.

Skip that, and the discount never happens.

The 5% doesn't cover fuel, pharmacy, tickets, or gift cards, and it applies only after every coupon and VIC price already came off.

6. Picking Delivery for a Small Order

Harris Teeter charges a sliding service fee on every ExpressLane order under $100, and delivery adds a second fee on top of it.

The two never cancel each other out.

A $40 pickup order costs $4.95 in fees.

Choose delivery on that same $40 order, and Harris Teeter adds another $11.95, pushing the combined fees past $16.

Not close.

That's more than a third of the groceries, in fees alone.

Cross $100, though, and the pickup service fee drops to zero, leaving only delivery's flat fee to pay.

Combining two smaller orders into one $100-plus cart erases the pickup fee.

7. Missing the Weekly Ad Flip

Harris Teeter's weekly ad turns over on Wednesdays at many of its stores, and new prices start ringing up the moment the old week ends.

The clock resets.

A shopper who saves a big BOGO run for Tuesday night, expecting one more day, can watch half that list ring up at full price instead.

The reverse trap catches shoppers too.

Show up Wednesday morning still hunting for last week's clearance markdown, and it's already gone, replaced by a fresh set of deals.

Checking the current ad on the Harris Teeter app before heading out beats guessing which week's prices are still live.

8. Settling for a Single Refund

Harris Teeter refunds an unhappy purchase within 60 days of the receipt, with an original receipt or a VIC card that's been active for at least 30 days.

Many shoppers stop there and ask for their money back.
