6 Hy-Vee Perks and Pickup Terms Iowans Should Read First

You scan your Hy-Vee card expecting every purchase to count.

Some purchases don’t earn a thing.

Iowans who skip the fine print may miss that, along with a few pickup terms that can add costs they didn’t expect.

Here are the Hy-Vee perks and pickup terms worth reading before your next trip.

1. Excluded Purchases

Hy-Vee’s Perks terms, effective October 20, 2025, list the restricted products that don’t earn program rewards.

Alcohol makes the list.

Fuel does too, which means the gallons you pump earn you nothing toward a reward.

Tobacco, price-controlled milk products and kerosene join them, along with postage stamps, lottery tickets and money orders.

Insurance and other third-party payments for prescription drugs are excluded too, as are co-pays and deductibles for government-funded benefit programs where prohibited.

Gift card purchases don’t count either.

Donations, taxes, amusement or entertainment tickets and Joe Fresh clothing and accessories are excluded as well.

2. Fuel Discount Limits

Hy-Vee caps discounted fuel at 20 gallons each redemption transaction.

Fuel discounts come from eligible items that offer a fuel discount.

Each redemption covers one vehicle, so you’ll redeem again for a second truck or car.

You can redeem at Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh, Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh Express or Hy-Vee Gas.

Participating Casey’s, Shell or Sinclair stations take the discount too.

Check before you drive over.

3. Reward Expiration

Fuel discount rewards from Hy-Vee Perks expire 30 days after you buy the eligible item that earned them.

Other Perks rewards expire on the notified expiration date or as the applicable store determines.

Rewards can’t become cash.

They also can’t move from one Perks card to another.

If you lose your Perks card, Hy-Vee isn’t responsible for it.

The terms let Hy-Vee modify or end the program, or any reward, at any time without notice.

4. Perks Plus Refund Window

Hy-Vee's Perks Plus terms, last updated September 28, 2022, say a yearly membership may be refunded if you cancel within the first 30 calendar days.

The catch is that the refund applies only if you haven't placed any orders or received any exclusive benefits or incentives.

Place an order on day three, and you won't get that refund.

Day 31 is too late.

If you want that refund, hold off on your first order until you've decided.

Perks Plus Renewal and Cancellation

Hy-Vee's Perks Plus membership renews automatically by default.

A monthly membership bills in advance every 30 days.

You cancel by editing your account preferences on the hy-vee.com website.

Hy-Vee can change membership fees at any time.

A fee change applies once your membership renews for another term.

5. Pickup Fees and Changes

Hy-Vee's Terms of Sale, last updated February 15, 2023, say a delivery or pickup fee applies to all site orders unless otherwise stated during the ordering process.

An order may be delivered to a physical address or picked up from a participating location.

Hy-Vee can also amend its delivery and pickup fees at any time.

Changes to pickup times after you submit an order may not be available.

You can request a cancellation or change by contacting Hy-Vee.

The applicable store decides whether it can cancel or change your order.

You may be subject to a restocking fee.

If an item is unavailable, Hy-Vee completes your order according to the substitution preference you selected.

Choose that preference carefully.

6. Free Express Pickup Minimum

Aisles Online orders of $29.99 or more qualify for free express pickup through Hy-Vee's Perks Plus membership, according to its terms.

Free scheduled delivery uses the same $29.99 minimum within the Aisles Online delivery area.

Deliveries are subject to availability, and service fees, special handling fees or taxes may still apply.

If you're a member and your cart sits just under $29.99, a few more items would qualify the order.

Total your cart first.

Perks Plus Trials

What happens when a Hy-Vee Perks Plus trial ends?

Hy-Vee charges the membership fee unless you cancel first.

Mark your calendar.

Only one trial or promotional membership is available for each household.

Hy-Vee sells the full membership on a yearly or monthly basis.

Who Can Join

Joining Hy-Vee Perks costs you nothing, and no purchase is necessary, according to the program terms.

Program rewards can take the form of fuel discounts, member price discounts, free products or services, and sweepstakes entries.

The minimum age is 14.

If you live in California, participation isn't currently available to you.

Supplemental terms apply to fuel discount rewards conversion in Wisconsin.

Site Prices and Store Prices

Hy-Vee's Terms of Sale say the prices shown on its sites may not reflect the prices in its retail stores.

That means your online total may differ from what the same items cost in the store.

Compare before you order.

What Perks Plus Includes

If you join, Hy-Vee's Perks Plus terms list a personal shopper among the benefits you get.

There's more.

Certain exclusive offers also appear on the list.

Perks member price discounts are in there too, along with fuel discounts tied to your Perks membership.
