7 Stewart’s Shops Orders Upstate New Yorkers Swear By
A quick stop at Stewart’s can turn into a full meal, or at least a scoop.
Many Upstate New Yorkers have a go-to order, and visitors may not know where to start.
Here are the Stewart’s picks locals swear by.
1. Crumbs Along the Mohawk
A 1939 movie inspired one of the ice cream flavors at Stewart’s Shops.
Crumbs Along the Mohawk pairs graham cracker-flavored ice cream with graham cracker pieces and a caramel swirl, according to Stewart’s.
John Ford’s film Drums Along the Mohawk inspired the flavor.
Set in New York’s Mohawk Valley on the eve of the American Revolution, the movie came out in 1939.
Many swear by this flavor.
If you like graham cracker crust, the pint of Crumbs Along the Mohawk is the one to grab.
2. Sausage, Egg and Cheese Wafflewich
In October 2024, Stewart’s Shops rolled out a breakfast sandwich that swaps the bread for a waffle.
The Sausage, Egg and Cheese Wafflewich stacks sausage, eggs and cheese between maple waffles.
It launched at $4.99.
The 2024 release pitched it for stopping by on your way to work.
If you want more heat, the current menu also lists a Spicy Chicken Wafflewich next to the Sausage Egg & Cheese version.
3. Make-Your-Own Sundaes
At the ice cream counter, a make-your-own sundae starts with a scoop of your choice, according to the ice cream page.
You decorate it with as many toppings as you like.
Toppings include chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, pineapple, rainbow sprinkles, mini M&Ms and Nerds.
A hot fudge sundae comes with the toppings set for you, including warm hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top.
4. Crock-Counter Mac and Cheese
The Mac and Cheese at the Stewart’s crock counter comes from the company’s plant in Greenfield, according to an October 2025 post.
Stewart’s calls the dish creamy.
Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Beef Stew and Chicken Noodle Soup are also among the crock options.
As of October 2026, you can find plain Mac & Cheese under Hot Entrées, and a barbecue pulled pork Mac & Cheese in its Now and Then section.
5. Mint Cookie Crumble
Mint Cookie Crumble is mint ice cream swirled with a chocolate cookie crumble fudge, according to its flavor page.
Its ice cream is made with fresh milk from local farms.
You can get it in a half gallon, a pint or an ice cream cone.
Under a World Dairy Expo logo, the page lists a first place in the mint ice cream class in 2018, plus a second place in 2022.
At the 2026 state competition, Stewart’s says Mint Cookie Crumble took first place for best ice cream in its category.
6. Eggwich Breakfast Sandwiches
The menu lists Eggwich breakfast sandwiches in its Sandwiches section.
The company picks up over 48,000 eggs daily from Thomas’ Poultry Farm in Schuylerville.
In 2022, you could order an Eggwich with bacon or sausage, and turkey sausage in some stores.
Many locals swear by the Eggwich.
The current menu also lists a Turkey Sausage, Egg White & Cheese English Muffin.
In 2022, breakfast was also available past 10:30 a.m.
7. Spicy Sausage and Peppers Pizza
The Spicy Sausage and Peppers Pizza arrived in September 2026 with spicy sausage, a tangy sauce, mozzarella and bell peppers.
It’s a limited edition available in select shops.
The release says the pizza will satisfy sweet, savory and spicy cravings.
If you want all three in one slice, that’s your order.
You can grab a slice or the whole pie.
Your Stewart’s Shop
Between the crock counter and the pizza oven, what you find depends on which shop you visit.
Crock counter availability varies by day and by shop.
A note in the September 2026 release says pizza is only available in shops with a turbo oven.
Where Stewart’s Began
Stewart’s Shops traces back to a 1917 purchase of a family dairy farm near Middle Grove.
Brothers Charles V. Dake and Percy W. Dake bought the farm from their father, the company’s history page says.
They tried making butter first.
Then they found a demand for ice cream, and they sold 4,000 gallons the first year, starting in 1921.
In 1945, the brothers bought a small dairy and ice cream business in Ballston Spa, and its storefront became the first Stewart’s Ice Cream Shop.
If you wonder about the name, Don Stewart had run that Ballston Spa business since 1918.
