7 Lidl Secrets Employees Wish Marylanders Knew
Lidl says all of its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day to give employees family time.
The closure isn’t a secret to regulars. But some things are.
These are the Lidl secrets employees wish Marylanders knew.
1. U.S. Sourcing
Lidl’s U.S. stores get 85% of what they sell from the United States, the company’s chief executive told Grocery Dive in July 2025.
So most of what you put in your Lidl cart probably comes from the United States.
Lidl still imports a product when it decides looking elsewhere is the better option.
Lidl has to source other goods in the United States for practical reasons, such as keeping them fresh.
The chief executive named private label high-protein yogurt as one product sold in Europe that U.S. stores didn’t carry at the time.
2. Case-Ready Meat
Lidl’s U.S. stores don’t have in-house butchers, Grocery Dive reported in May 2025.
Instead, you pick up fresh meat in case-ready packages.
Butcher’s Specialty is Lidl US’s first private label line of fresh meat.
If you’re after beef, the line includes Choice-grade, organic and grass-fed options.
It also includes antibiotic-free chicken and all-natural pork, lamb and veal.
By May 2025, about 60% of the meat items in Lidl’s stateside stores carried the Butcher’s Specialty name.
3. Boxes on the Shelves
Lidl leaves products in the boxes they arrive in instead of restocking shelves item by item.
So when you grab a product off a Lidl shelf, you’re often reaching into the box it arrived in.
The company’s About Us page says the stocking method saves time.
Bethesda Magazine noted the same display when Lidl’s Bethesda store opened in 2025.
Lidl treats the boxes, like its bring-your-own-bag policy, as a way to keep overhead to a minimum.
4. Special Guest Bakery
Lidl adds four new baked goods each month through its Special Guest bakery program, available while supplies last.
The picks follow seasonal trends.
Because Lidl introduces four new baked goods each month, there’s something new to try.
If you’re picking up bread or pastries, Grocery Dive reported in 2025 that Lidl prepares the bakery items behind the shelves in on-site ovens.
Lidl says the bakery has freshly baked bread and pastries all day long.
5. Preferred Selection Flags
Lidl’s Preferred Selection line puts a flag emblem on its packaging to denote each product’s country of origin, the company says.
If a package looks unfamiliar, the flag tells you where it’s from.
Examples include prosciutto from Italy, stroopwafels from the Netherlands and feta cheese from Greece.
Lidl believes authentic food tastes best when it comes from its country of origin.
You can find the line in almost every department, and Lidl adds more items in winter and spring.
Lidl’s Import Lines by Region
If you’re matching a name to a region, Lidl’s Taste of the World page gives you six import lines.
Italiamo covers Italian imports, Duc De Coeur covers French imports and Alpenfest covers Alpine imports.
Vitasia covers Asian imports, Sol&Mar covers Spanish imports and Eridaneous covers Greek imports.
Lidl calls each one an exclusive line.
6. Love It Guarantee
Lidl’s Love It Guarantee promises both a refund and a replacement if you’re not satisfied, according to the company’s July 2026 store-opening release.
In its 2025 Bethesda opening release, Lidl said that if you don’t love a product you buy, you’re entitled to a refund and a replacement.
7. Parkside Battery Warranty
If you’re eyeing a Parkside tool, Lidl’s page says its X 12 V and X 20 V battery technology comes with a 3-year warranty.
The page describes the X 12 V as handy and compact and the X 20 V as powerful and compatible.
The brand covers tools, garden equipment and accessories, and you can find it in Lidl stores and online.
Lidl calls Parkside Europe’s best-selling do-it-yourself brand and says it started in 1996.
Lidl is celebrating 30 years of Parkside, and its page also mentions limited-edition gifts in stores.
A Consistent Assortment
Lidl customizes little of its stock to local regions, its chief executive said in 2025.
For the most part, the company keeps a very consistent assortment across its stores so it can operate efficiently.
Lidl still adjusts certain items for the local area.
Grocery Dive also reported that the stores are generally similar in layout.
So when you shop at a Lidl in Maryland, you’re mostly seeing the same assortment and layout as in other states.
Lidl’s About Us page says around 80% of its products are private label and all of them undergo rigorous taste, quality and sensory testing.
Front-of-Store Layout
Lidl deliberately places its produce close to the front of the store, its chief executive said during a 2025 store tour.
The idea is for you to think about fresh products, especially fresh fruit and vegetables, as soon as you walk in.
A floor-to-ceiling display of fresh baked goods is also among the first things you’ll notice, Grocery Dive reported.
Monday Must-Haves
Lidl’s About Us page says new surprises await in the middle of its stores every Monday.
If you’re shopping on a Monday, the middle of the store is where you’d look.
Items range from comfy sweatpants to cast iron cookware.
Lidl’s 2026 store-opening releases call the weekly lineup Monday Must-Haves.
Monday Must-Haves cover kitchenware, home décor, fitness gear and seasonal treats like Favorina holiday chocolates.

Thanksgiving Closure
Lidl will close all of its U.S. stores on Thanksgiving Day, the company announced in an Oct. 13 release.
If you're shopping at Lidl for the holiday, you'll need to go before then.
Lidl also plans to temporarily reduce the prices of 100 products each week throughout November.
Lidl says the closure gives its employees time with their families and loved ones.
Lidl will also give every employee a free turkey, in addition to their existing 10% employee discount.
