7 Big Differences Between Woodman’s and Pick ‘n Save Every Wisconsinite Should Know
If you run out of milk at 3 a.m., most Woodman’s stores in Wisconsin are open.
But Pick ‘n Save usually closes at 10 p.m.
Here are the big differences between Woodman’s and Pick ‘n Save every Wisconsinite should know.
1. Store Ownership
Woodman’s calls itself an employee owned grocery store that was founded in 1919.
Woodman’s says its employees bought a majority of the company in 1998.
Pick ‘n Save belongs to Kroger, whose history page lists a 2015 merger with Roundy’s, Pick ‘N Save, Metro Markets and Mariano’s.
Today, Kroger’s shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange, which makes Pick ‘n Save’s parent a publicly traded company.
2. Store Counts
Pick ‘n Save’s store page lists 77 grocery stores across 64 cities in Wisconsin.
Woodman’s store list shows 14 in the state and 7 more in Illinois, for 21 stores in all.
Its stores sit in Altoona, Appleton, Beloit, Green Bay, Janesville, Kenosha, Menomonee Falls, Oak Creek, Onalaska, Racine, Sun Prairie and Waukesha, plus two in Madison.
Woodman’s is in no more than 13 of those 64 cities, so at least 51 of them have a Pick ‘n Save and no Woodman’s.
3. Pharmacies
Woodman’s doesn’t have a pharmacy, its FAQ says.
Prescriptions need another stop.
Pick ‘n Save’s pharmacy page lists 45 pharmacies across 40 cities in Wisconsin.
With 77 stores in the state, that leaves at least 32 without a pharmacy.
Look up your store first.
4. Store Hours
Woodman’s store list shows 13 of its 14 Wisconsin grocery stores open 24 hours.
Menomonee Falls is the exception, with grocery hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Some holidays are exceptions to the 24-hour schedule too.
Pick ‘n Save’s Milwaukee Midtown page gives 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and its Bluemound page gives 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Both pages also ask you to call the store for more information, so confirm before a late-night run.
5. Shopper Cards
Pick ‘n Save’s Points program gives you 1 point for every $1 spent on most groceries, and you redeem points within your digital account before checkout.
Its pickup help page says digital coupons load to your Shopper’s Card and apply automatically to your order.
Woodman’s FAQ says you don’t need a membership to get its savings.
You clip digital coupons in a free ShopWoodmans.com account, which you can set up at home or at an in-store kiosk, then give the cashier your Shopper ID at checkout.
Those digital coupons only work in the store, not on online orders.
6. Pickup Fees
Woodman’s FAQ lists a $4.95 pickup fee on orders from $50 to $99.99 and no fee over $99.99, but it doesn’t state a fee for orders under $50.
At Pick ‘n Save, pickup is free on orders of $35 or more and carries a service fee of $4.95 below that, though restrictions may apply.
Woodman’s runs pickup through its ShopWoodmans.com site.
That makes a $60 pickup order cost $4.95 at Woodman’s and nothing at Pick ‘n Save, based on those posted fees.
7. Gas Stations
Woodman’s lists a gas station among the services on each of its 14 Wisconsin store pages.
Its FAQ says gas station hours can differ from store to store.
Pick ‘n Save’s fuel page lists two gas stations, in Stoughton and West Allis.

Store Size
Woodman's says its stores average 230,000 square feet.
Its history page says the 1921 grocery store started at 580 square feet.
That makes today's average store nearly 400 times the size of that first one.
Credit Cards
At the register, Woodman's FAQ says it takes Discover credit cards, personal identification number (PIN) debit cards, cash, electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) benefits.
Discover is the only credit card it accepts at the register, so a Visa or Mastercard credit card won't work there.
Checks work at most locations, excluding Racine and Plainfield.
Pick 'n Save's pickup help page lists credit, debit and gift cards and government benefits for pickup orders.
The page covers pickup orders, so it doesn't settle what your card does at the register.
Paying for Woodman's Online Orders
Woodman's online ordering site, ShopWoodmans, accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, EBT cards and Woodman's gift cards.
Cash, checks and third-party apps such as Venmo or Zelle aren't accepted there.
If you pay with EBT, you also have to link a credit or debit card to your account to cover fees.
Delivery Terms
Woodman's FAQ lists a $50 minimum and a $9.95 delivery fee for delivery orders and says you can tip your driver if you'd like.
Pick 'n Save's delivery page lists a standard fee of $9.95, though fees vary based on the day and time slot you select.
Kroger Delivery doesn't accept tips, although third-party partners such as Instacart can.
Express Delivery carries a $4.95 surcharge on top of the standard fee.
Boost members get free delivery on orders of $35 or more.
