12 Marshalls Precautions Floridians Ignore at Their Own Risk
Buy a gift at Marshalls between Oct. 4 and Dec. 24, and you can return it through Jan. 25, 2027.
That extra time helps, but it won’t save a return that breaks the store’s other rules.
Here are the Marshalls precautions Floridians should take before their holiday shopping starts.
1. Your Register Receipt
Under the standard in-store policy, Marshalls will exchange an item or refund you in your original form of payment when you bring a register receipt within 30 days of purchase.
A return without a receipt gets merchandise credit only.
Marshalls’ Gift Card Refund page says returns made without a receipt get that credit in the form of a gift card.
So we’d keep your receipt in your wallet instead of the shopping bag.
2. Your 30-Day Window
No store’s return window suits every shopper, and Marshalls’ standard in-store window is 30 days from purchase, after which a return with a receipt gets merchandise credit only.
Purchases you make between Oct. 4 and Dec. 24, 2026 follow a longer holiday window, covered in section 6.
If you paid by check, you must wait 10 days from the purchase date for a cash refund.
3. Photo ID
For a return without a receipt, Marshalls’ in-store policy requires a valid government-issued photo ID, plus your name, address and signature.
That ID may be required again when you spend the merchandise credit.
Any name printed on the credit must match the name on your ID, or the credit may not be used.
Even with a receipt, your signature may be required for the return.
4. Attached Tickets
Marshalls’ in-store policy says swimwear and intimate apparel come back only with their tickets properly attached.
Merchandise that is used, worn or in unsellable condition won’t be accepted for a refund, merchandise credit or an exchange.
For marshalls.com orders, the online policy says certain items may include an additional security tag that must stay attached and intact for your return to be accepted.
Once you’ve decided to keep the item, you can remove that tag at home.
5. Sister-Brand Returns
Marshalls says items bought at a Marshalls store can only be returned to a Marshalls store, and not to T.J. Maxx or any of its other sister brands.
If you shop Marshalls and T.J. Maxx on the same trip, you may want to keep the bags and receipts separate.
The online policy sets the same limit for marshalls.com orders, which can go back to a Marshalls store or the Marshalls online warehouse.
6. Holiday Window Cutoff
Marshalls’ holiday policy lets you return store purchases made between Oct. 4 and Dec. 24, 2026 through Jan. 25, 2027.
The online policy gives marshalls.com orders from those dates until Feb. 4, 2027.
The normal return policy applies to purchases made beginning Dec. 26, 2026.
That means a Dec. 26 purchase doesn’t get the extended deadline, and in a store you’re back to the standard 30 days.
How Marshalls’ Holiday Window Adds Up
A Marshalls purchase on Oct. 4, 2026 has 113 days before the Jan. 25, 2027 return deadline.
A Marshalls purchase on Dec. 24, 2026 has 32 days, only two more than the standard 30.
A marshalls.com order on Oct. 4 has 123 days before its Feb. 4 deadline, and a Dec. 24 order has 42.
7. Gift Returns
Marshalls’ Gift Card Refund page says a gift’s recipient, and also its purchaser, can only get a refund in the form of a gift card.
The in-store policy lists returns with a gift receipt among those that get merchandise credit only.
Holiday gift returns with a receipt will also get a store credit.
So if you’re buying the gift, you may want to tell the person it comes back as credit.
8. Refund Verification
Many retailers are subject to fraudulent return activity, Marshalls’ in-store policy says.
Returns may be limited or declined based on the store’s refund verification systems, which process and track returns for its loss prevention program.
We wouldn’t treat a return as guaranteed, even when you bring a receipt.
Other restrictions may also apply to your return.
9. Matching Your Payment Method
If you pay at Marshalls with the TJX Rewards credit card, the card’s program terms say purchases made using your account must be returned for credit to that same account.
Points are deducted for any returns or credits made on your account.
Marshalls’ online return policy says a marshalls.com purchase paid with PayPal and returned to a Marshalls store gets any refund as merchandise credit.
Items you pay for in part or in full with a Marshalls gift card also come back as merchandise credit.
10. No Price Adjustments
Marshalls says on its price adjustments page that, at this time, it doesn’t offer price adjustments for marked down or clearance merchandise that was previously purchased.
Say you buy a jacket this week and then see its tag drop next week.
Based on that page, we wouldn’t count on getting the difference back on your purchase.
11. Returning Online Orders
As of October 2026, Marshalls’ online return policy gives marshalls.com orders 40 days from the order date, unless your shipping confirmation email says otherwise.
Its price adjustments page says 30 days unless your packing slip says otherwise, so we’d go by the date on your packing slip or shipping confirmation email.
If you mail an order back, an $11.99 return shipping and handling fee is deducted from your refund or store credit, and you’re charged that for each package.
You can avoid those costs by bringing your online purchase to a Marshalls store.
Merchandise bought in a store cannot be returned online.
12. Online Return Exclusions
Marshalls’ online return policy lists items it won’t take back in a store, including items over $1,000, handbags and footwear over $499.99, long occasion gowns and luggage sets.
Beauty items opened or tampered with cannot be returned.
Some items may be final sale or carry additional return restrictions, and your shipping confirmation email shows the details in the item information.
Those details also appear on the product description page, so you can review them before you buy.

Email Receipts at Checkout
Marshalls' My In-Store Purchases page says select stores offer email receipts, and the option appears at checkout.
You'll still receive a paper copy as well.
Email receipts can also be used to make a return, just like paper receipts.
Choosing the option opts you in to brand marketing communications from TJX Brands, and you can opt out through the unsubscribe link.
Rewards Certificate Dates
The TJX Rewards certificates you earn with the card can be used at marshalls.com or in any Marshalls store.
The card's program terms say your certificate is valid for two years from its issue date and isn't a gift card.
Questions about TJX Rewards go to Synchrony Bank customer service.
