6 Kroger Fuel Points Rules That Cost Hoosiers at the Pump

That Shell or bp station on your corner might not take Kroger fuel points.

It’s one of the ways Kroger’s fine print can shrink your savings at the pump.

Here are the Kroger fuel points rules that cost Hoosiers at the pump, and how to keep each one from shrinking your savings.

1. No Points on Fuel Purchases

Kroger’s Rewards terms list fuel purchases as an exclusion, so your fill-up doesn’t earn Points unless a fuel center or promotion says otherwise.

Most groceries earn 1 Point for every $1 you spend, so $100 of eligible groceries adds 100 Points.

Every 100 Points takes 10 cents off each gallon, which means that cart is worth 10 cents a gallon at the pump.

The $100 you put in the tank typically adds none, unless you pay with the Kroger Mastercard covered below, and we think that’s the rule to flag first.

2. Month-End Expiration

Kroger’s fuel points expire on the last day of the month after you earn them.

Points you earn in October last through Nov. 30.

Then they’re gone.

A shop on Oct. 1 gives you 60 days to use the Points, while a shop on Oct. 31 gives you 30.

At Kroger Family Fuel Centers you can choose exactly which month’s Points balance to use, so you can spend the month about to expire first.

Kroger’s terms say monthly balances don’t combine across months, so each month’s Points run on separate clocks.

Points can be redeemed for groceries only in 100-point increments, so a leftover balance of 99 buys no grocery discount.

3. 35-Gallon Limit

Kroger ties its fuel points discount to one purchase of fuel, so you can’t stretch it past 35 gallons.

Your discount tops out at $1 off per gallon, which is where the $35 per fill-up figure comes from.

Extra gallons cost full price.

Kroger’s Rewards terms say local officials in certain jurisdictions can set a gallon limit below 35, and its FAQ says the dollar and gallon limits may vary by location.

The pump in front of you may not match the program page.

The discount is also subject to credit and debit card fraud prevention limits on the amount of purchase.

Kroger can change or discontinue the Rewards Program at any time without notice, so every limit here can move.

What Kroger’s $35 Fuel Cap Means

Kroger’s $35 fuel cap is a ceiling, and the number of gallons you pump sets how close you get.

At the full $1 off per gallon, a 12-gallon fill-up saves up to $12.

Only a 35-gallon purchase reaches $35.

Reaching the full $1 off per gallon takes 1,000 Points, which equals $1,000 of eligible grocery spending at 1 Point per $1.

4. Participating Stations Only

Kroger’s fuel locator lists 88 gas stations across 50 Indiana cities, from Fort Wayne to Jeffersonville.

Indianapolis alone has 19 Kroger gas stations.

The discount is still limited to participating fuel centers and participating third-party fuel centers.

Kroger’s FAQ says partner stations vary by region and may include Shell, bp, Amoco and Turkey Hill.

Partner stations work differently from Kroger’s own fuel centers. Your oldest Points are used first there, so check that the station takes part before you count on the discount.

If a Shell or bp station on your corner isn’t a participant, you pay the regular price.

5. No Stacking With Other Fuel Offers

Kroger’s fuel points discount isn’t valid with any other fuel offer, the Rewards terms say.

So if a different fuel promotion is running at the pump, you can’t add your Points on top of it. Kroger reserves the right to charge a minimum amount per gallon if a discount would be greater than the price per gallon.

6. Grocery Redemptions You Can’t Undo

Fox19 reported in June 2026 that Kroger’s fuel points can pay for groceries too.

Kroger’s FAQ sets a daily grocery limit of 1,000 Points ($10 off) per household.

The Rewards terms say redeemed Points leave your monthly balance and can’t be reinstated, refunded or reversed.

You can split your Points between fuel and groceries, but the grocery side of that split is the part you can’t undo.

On the program page’s rate, those same 1,000 Points would take $1 off every gallon, which is $12 on a 12-gallon fill-up against $10 at the register.

Kroger Mastercard Exceptions

Kroger’s Rewards World Elite Mastercard changes some of these rules if you carry the card, according to the credit card sections of the Rewards terms.

Credit Card Points don’t expire while your card account stays active and in good standing.

Kroger fuel transactions earn 4 Credit Card Points, which makes the card the main exception to item 1.

Cardholders can also skip the 1,000-Point daily grocery limit and redeem up to 50,000 Points, a $500 value, in a day.

Two rewards stay off the pump, though. The card’s birthday reward and welcome bonus can’t be used for fuel purchases.

Suspended and Sold Points

Under section 1.3 of the Rewards terms, Kroger can suspend or remove you from the Rewards Program or from earning Points over a suspected violation of the terms or suspected fraud.

Selling or buying Points is prohibited, so you can’t buy a friend’s unused balance to use at the pump.

Veterinarians at Purdue University in West Lafayette warn that salt and ice-melt chemicals stuck to a dog’s paws can injure the skin underneath.

Skipping the paw wipe-down after a winter walk is one of many cold-weather grooming habits Hoosiers don’t realize can hurt a dog.
