7 Giant Eagle Perks That Slip Past Ohioans Over 60
Giant Eagle sold its whole GetGo chain, all 270 stores across five states, to Circle K’s parent company.
Nobody mailed out a memo about what that changed at the pump.
These are the Giant Eagle perks that slip past Ohioans over 60.
Note: This is general information, not financial advice. Rewards programs, credit card terms, and pharmacy promotions are subject to change.
1. The Prescription Path to Pro Status
Giant Eagle sorts its myPerks members into two tiers, and the top tier pays out a lot more.
A shopper reaches Pro status by earning 2,500 perks in six months or by logging 25 qualifying trips in that same window.
A prescription filled at a Giant Eagle Pharmacy counts as one of those trips.
Many regulars never hear it.
Federal health survey data shows 88.6% of adults 65 and older took at least one prescription medication in the past year.
Refilling that prescription every month already counts as a qualifying trip toward Pro status, no groceries required.
Pro status then pays 50% more perks on every grocery, gas, prescription, and gift card purchase that follows.
Anyone picking up a routine prescription without a myPerks account scanned is leaving that trip uncounted.
The Math Behind Giant Eagle’s Pro Status
A household filling one monthly prescription and making a single weekly grocery stop at Giant Eagle already clears 25 qualifying trips in about six months.
That crosses the Pro threshold on routine errands alone, well before a shopper ever sits down to count perks.
2. Fuelperks to myPerks
Giant Eagle ran fuelperks+ for the last time on January 25, 2024, shutting the program down for good.
Giant Eagle folded the fuel discount straight into myPerks, trading a card swiped at the pump for an account linked to an app and a phone number.
That’s a bigger ask.
A 2024 AARP survey found only 61% of adults 70 and older say they have the digital skills to fully take advantage of being online.
Adults in their 50s reported having those skills at a notably higher rate, 72%.
That’s the exact skill this switch requires, and it’s the one age group least likely to say they have it.
Anyone who stopped checking a Giant Eagle app the week the fuelperks+ name disappeared has months, maybe years, of gas savings sitting unclaimed.
3. Circle K Pumps Included
Giant Eagle sold its whole GetGo chain, all 270 stores across five states, to Circle K’s parent company.
That deal closed in June 2025.
GetGo kept its name at the pump, and many loyal customers assumed nothing about their rewards had moved.
Something did.
As of March 2026, Giant Eagle’s myPerks rewards became redeemable at 285 Circle K locations spread across Ohio, from Cleveland and Akron to Youngstown.
Those pumps work on top of the GetGo stations shoppers already knew.
A shopper redeems by opening the Giant Eagle app at the pump and scanning the code posted on the fuel island.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has found that older drivers are more likely to self-limit their driving, sticking to fewer trips on shorter, more familiar routes.
A shopper who has kept the same short loop for years rarely swaps it for a station outside that loop, even one paying the identical rewards.
4. The Smarter Reward at Checkout
Giant Eagle gives every myPerks member three separate ways to cash in a balance at checkout.
Fifty perks buy a flat dollar off the whole order, with no minimum purchase required.
A member can also put perks toward up to 20% off groceries, or up to 30 cents off every gallon of gas capped at 30 gallons.
Giant Eagle highlights whichever option saves the most that day.
Not everyone takes the hint.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that drivers 65 and older typically log significantly fewer miles a year than younger drivers.
Fewer miles means less gas bought overall, so the capped cents-per-gallon reward tops out at a smaller total than the uncapped percent off groceries almost every time.
Ignoring the highlighted option, out of habit, is what costs the bigger deal.
Psst! How many of Giant Eagle’s perks are you cashing in? Run through this checklist and see where you stand.
5. The Flu-Shot Payback
Giant Eagle’s pharmacy promotions have offered 10% off a grocery order to anyone who gets a flu shot or another eligible vaccine at a Giant Eagle Pharmacy.
A flu shot or another eligible vaccine is exactly the kind of yearly routine many people over 60 already keep on the calendar.
Many walk out with a bandage and never ask about the discount.
Nobody mentions it at checkout.
The reward loads to the account tied to a myPerks card or phone number.
A shopper without one scanned at the pharmacy counter gets the shot and misses the savings.
6. A Full Year to Cash In
A myPerks balance at Giant Eagle doesn’t expire for a full 12 months after it’s earned.
The Administration for Community Living’s 2023 Profile of Older Americans found 28% of adults 65 and older live alone.
Many of the rest live with just a spouse or partner.
A one- or two-person household simply rings up smaller grocery and gas totals each week than a house full of kids does.
Smaller totals build perks slower.
A shopper who cashes out every visit, out of habit, never lets a balance grow past a dollar or two.
Letting it sit a few months instead turns that same trickle into enough for one big order or a full tank of gas.
7. The Double-Discount Card
Giant Eagle offers a myPerks Pay Visa card through First National Bank of Omaha, and it stacks a second discount on top of the base rewards program.
The card earns 2% back in perks on Giant Eagle, Market District, and GetGo purchases, 3% on dining, and 1% on everything else.
It also knocks 5 to 30 cents off every gallon of gas at GetGo.
New cardholders get Pro status automatically for the first six months, no trips or perk total required.
Every purchase in that stretch earns at the higher Pro rate before a single qualifying trip is logged.
A 2023 Federal Reserve survey found older consumers are more likely to pay with cash than younger shoppers, who lean toward debit cards instead.
That’s the gap.
Cash never touches a card-based reward, so that share of a Giant Eagle total earns nothing extra no matter which card sits in the same wallet.
Approval and the card’s terms apply, the same as any credit card.
Ibotta’s Second Payout
Giant Eagle lets shoppers link a myPerks account to Ibotta, a separate cash-back app, and the two run side by side.
Add a qualifying Ibotta offer, shop with a linked myPerks account, and the cash back lands in the Ibotta account automatically.
That’s on top of whatever perks that same purchase already earned.
There’s one catch.
A shopper can’t use a myPerks digital coupon and an Ibotta offer on the identical item.
It comes down to picking the better deal item by item, not stacking both on one product.
The rule runs one step further: Adding a manufacturer coupon to an item that already carries a myPerks or Ibotta offer means only the manufacturer coupon applies, not both.
Stacking pays off only when myPerks, Ibotta, and a manufacturer coupon each land on a different item in the same cart.
