7 Things Lowes Foods Employees Wish North Carolinians Knew Before Checkout

You reach the register with a coupon in hand and a deal in mind.

At Lowes Foods, how that deal plays out may depend on a policy you didn’t know about.

Here are the things Lowes Foods employees wish North Carolinians knew before checkout.

1. Half-Price BOGO Sales

On a Buy One, Get One Free sale at Lowes Foods, you pay half price for each item.

Add a manufacturer coupon for Buy One, Get One Free, and you pay for one half-priced item while the other comes free.

The Manufacturer Coupons page uses Lipton iced tea on sale for $6.99 as its example.

In that example, you pay for one half-priced tea and walk out with two.

On an item that isn’t on sale, you pay regular retail price for one and get the other free.

2. Competitors’ Coupons

Lowes Foods takes a Publix circular coupon.

The Competitors’ Coupons page lists circular and direct-mail coupons from local supermarkets including Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Publix and Aldi.

Local supercenters such as Walmart and Target make the list too.

Not every rival is welcome.

Club stores such as Costco, Sam’s Club and BJ’s are left out.

So are dollar stores such as Dollar General and drug stores such as CVS and Walgreens.

On certain products, Lowes Foods limits the rival coupons you bring to four coupons a day for each household.

A rival’s dollars-off coupon for a group of items or a particular order total gets a limit of one a day for your household.

For that coupon to qualify, Lowes Foods figures the order total after discounts and coupons but before sales tax.

3. Price Matching

Many Lowes Foods shoppers hope a rival’s lower price will carry over to the register.

The Price Matching page says Lowes Foods doesn’t match competitors’ pricing on any items and points you to the Weekly Ad and Digital Coupons instead.

To use a digital coupon at Lowes Foods, you clip it online at shop.lowesfoods.com to your Fresh Rewards account before you buy.

Digital coupons count as manufacturer coupons, so they may not be combined with paper manufacturer coupons in the same transaction.

If both turn up for the same item, the paper coupon takes precedence.

4. Fresh Rewards at the Register

You can use your Fresh Rewards account at any Lowes Foods store, according to the help center.

At checkout, you give the cashier the phone number on the account or scan your barcode in the Lowes Foods app.

Many Lowes Foods employees wish shoppers had that number ready.

If you give a phone number, the Fresh Rewards terms say the cashier will ask for a valid driver’s license for the security of your account.

The terms also mention a Fresh Rewards card or key fob presented at checkout.

Each guest at Lowes Foods should have an account connected to a personal phone number.

5. Scan Right Guarantee

The Scan Right Guarantee is Lowes Foods’ promise to make it right when an item scans at a higher price than its shelf tag shows.

Many Lowes Foods employees wish shoppers glanced at the tag before checkout.

Under the guarantee, you get one of the incorrectly priced items free.

Any additional identical items in the same transaction sell at the lower advertised price.

The guarantee doesn’t cover beer, wine, tobacco products or other items prohibited by law.

Lowes Foods needs a valid receipt to verify the purchase.

6. Fuel Rewards Exclusions

Not every purchase at Lowes Foods earns Fuel Rewards.

Most items count toward Fuel Rewards.

The exclusion list names wine, beer, tobacco, prescriptions, fuel, taxes, services, Lowes Foods gift cards, open value gift cards and lottery tickets.

Whether you shop in the store, online or through the Lowes Foods app, you earn Fuel Rewards by using your Fresh Rewards account.

What Happens to Your Lowes Foods Fuel Rewards

Lowes Foods Fuel Rewards expire 30 days after you earn them, according to the help center.

Your balance and expiration dates show up in your Fresh Rewards account and on your receipt.

The Fresh Rewards terms call them Gas Rewards, the name on Lowes Foods’ own Gas Rewards page, which lists the same 30-day expiry and Speedway link.

After twelve consecutive months without earning Gas Rewards, your account is treated as inactive.

Your qualifying purchases toward the next Gas Rewards may then reset to $0.00.

Lowes Foods may also deduct Gas Rewards if you return the qualifying products and get a refund.

To redeem Fuel Rewards at Speedway, you first link your Fresh Rewards account to a Speedy Rewards account, Lowes Foods’ Speedway page says.

Fuel Rewards work at participating Speedway locations across the country, excluding New Jersey, Virginia and Connecticut.

7. Doubling Manufacturer Coupons

Lowes Foods will double up to 20 manufacturer coupons a day for each household with a Fresh Rewards card, its Double Coupons page says.

Digital coupons are out, since Lowes Foods won’t double any of them.

The cutoff is a face value of $0.99 or less, so a $1 coupon falls just over the line.

Doubled savings stop at the retail or sale price of the coupon item.

Lowes Foods sets no minimum purchase for doubling, so even one coupon you bring can double.

You can’t split a purchase into separate orders to get past 20 coupons in a day.

Coupons for free items or Buy One, Get One Free items won’t double either.

The Manufacturer Coupons page limits redemption to four like coupons, and like items include all flavors.

Lowes Foods also accepts internet print-at-home coupons if they scan at checkout.

Those are limited to four a day, like manufacturer coupons.
