7 Things South Floridians Shop for at Sedano’s First

Very few people leave Sedano’s without a cafecito and a pastry.

It’s a Sedano’s ritual, but it’s not the only stop regulars make before anything else.

Here’s what South Floridians reach for first at Sedano’s.

1. Cuban Bread

If you head to the Sedano’s bakery, fresh-baked Cuban bread is one of the popular items a 2022 Miami New Times profile of the chain names there.

Food & Wine‘s shopping guide to Sedano’s says the smell of freshly baked Cuban bread carries through the whole building.

The bakery’s to-go items include Colombian-style empanadas.

2. Pork Cuts

The corte latino, Sedano’s meat department, is one of the store’s most popular sections, according to Miami New Times coverage of the chain’s 60th anniversary.

In it, you can request hard-to-find cuts and have them hand-cut in front of you.

The Food & Wine guide describes pork as the focus, in forms that range from tubs of rendered pork fat to solid fat strips.

The cuts include pork loin, leg, skin, neck bones, shoulder, chorizo and smoked ham.

Need a whole pig?

Florida Trend reported in 2008 that Sedano’s sold whole pigs, cooked to order or raw, as well as pork cut into the square chunks used in masitas de puerco, a popular Cuban dish.

A Christmas Day roundup noted a sign at the Eighth Street store in Little Havana promoting lechon entero for Nochebuena and Christmas.

3. Yuca and Other Root Vegetables

Your Sedano’s produce run can go well past onions, tomatoes and strawberries.

Look for tuber vegetables such as malanga, yuca and boniato.

4. Frozen Latin Foods

The guide says the Sedano’s frozen foods section is reserved for Latin foods and juices.

If you’re stocking your freezer, look for fruit pulp, tamale shells, Venezuelan tequeños, arepas, cachapas and Colombian pandebono.

6. Cafecito and a Pastry

Very few people leave Sedano's without a stop at the cafeteria for a cafecito and a pastry, a 2022 Miami New Times profile of the chain says.

The Produce News described the chain's cafeterias as serving espresso and pastelitos in 2010.

If you'd rather brew at home, there's La Carreta, a local Miami coffee brand.

7. Mini and Regular Platters

You can order mini and regular platters at the Sedano's customer service counter or on sedanos.com.

Feeding a crowd?

Platters come with meatballs, sub sandwiches, pinwheel wraps, chicken tenders and fruit.

Snacks and Sweets

A Food & Wine guide says you'll find La Bayamesa coconut macaroons, cajeta de leche and snack-sized bags of plantains in the Sedano's checkout lanes.

For sweets, pick up Colombian Bon Bon Bum lollipops or Galletas Puig, a thin, round Spanish biscuit.

For something salty, grab Mambi chicharrones.

They're easy add-ons.

Fresh Salmon

Atlantic salmon is a newer addition: Sedano's began selling Mowi's fresh, skin-packed cuts in 2025, according to a SalmonBusiness report.

If you're cooking at home, the cuts are pitched as a restaurant-quality option.

Beyond Cuban Staples

Sedano's stocks plenty beyond Cuba, so your shopping list can go there too.

Back in 2008, Florida Trend reported an aisle at the west Miami store with 24 feet of shelf space dedicated to customers from Central America.

Hispanic groceries abound, from maltas to bulk rice to Cuban crackers.

A 2010 trade report said each Sedano's pays attention to the neighborhood and the shoppers there.

The recipes on the Sedano's website run from Peruvian-style roast chicken to Argentinian choripan and Nicaraguan-style churrasco.

Pickup and Delivery

Online pickup at Sedano's has no fee, according to its FAQ.

Pickup windows are normally one hour long.

You can place an order up to 7 days in advance.

At curbside pickup, an associate brings your order directly to your car and loads it for you.

Pickup hours range by store, but they're usually 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.

For delivery, hours change by store but are usually between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.

There's no minimum order for curbside pickup or delivery at this time.

Its FAQ, last updated in July 2023, lists Uber Eats, Shipt, DoorDash and Uber Grocery as other ways to order, depending on where you live.

What Sedano's Online Ordering Doesn't Cover

You can't order any prescriptions online at this time.

You also can't pick the store for a delivery order, since the closest and most efficient store is selected automatically from your delivery address.

Where the Stores Are

Sedano's says it was founded in 1962 as a neighborhood supermarket in Hialeah.

The site has a store locator.

A trade report in January 2026 described 32 supermarkets across central and southern Florida.

If you live near Orlando, Sedano's home page lists two locations there.
