7 Things Weis Markets Employees Wish Marylanders Would Stop Doing at Checkout
Holding up the checkout line is no one’s idea of a good time.
Cashiers at Weis Markets see the same snags again and again, and Marylanders who shop there may spot a few of their own habits on this list.
Here’s what Weis employees wish shoppers would stop doing at checkout, and why.
1. Showing Coupons on Your Phone
Weis’s coupon policy says the store doesn’t accept coupons presented on a phone or device.
A coupon needs an expiration date and can’t look distorted, blurry or altered.
If you’re bringing paper, check the date and the print first.
If you’d rather skip paper, eCoupons load to your card instead of your screen.
How Weis eCoupons Work
Weis eCoupons are load-to-card coupons that you clip to your Weis Rewards Card.
A clipped eCoupon works the moment you clip it and stays good until its stated expiration date.
You can’t use a printed manufacturer’s coupon and an eCoupon on the same item.
On your receipt, an eCoupon discount appears as EM DC, which stands for Electronic Marketing Digital Coupon.
2. Buying Gift Cards With Credit Cards
Weis Markets lists two ways to pay for a gift card, debit cards that use a personal identification number and cash.
Credit cards aren’t on that list.
So if you’re buying a gift card, bring cash or your debit card.
Gift cards aren’t refundable or transferable, so settle on an amount before you reach the register.
Gift cards aren’t available for purchase from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
3. Presenting a Photocopied Gold Offer
Weis’s Gold Card page says a Gold offer has to be presented in its original form.
That rules out a photocopy.
The offers are good only for the intended Gold Card shopper.
So if you’re handing over a Gold offer, make sure it’s the coupon Weis sent you, not a copy.
4. Buying Milk for Rewards Points
Weis Rewards Points don’t come with every purchase you make at the register.
The rewards page says you can’t earn points on milk, cream, lottery tickets, cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, gasoline or Weis gift cards, among other purchases.
So a gallon of milk adds nothing to your points total, and neither does a gift card.
Tobacco products, postage stamps, money orders, phone and utility payments and Western Union are on the list too.

5. Using Internet Coupons for Free Items
Weis Markets won't accept internet coupons for free items or internet coupons with a value over $10, according to its coupon policy.
Say you printed a coupon at home for a free bag of Utz chips.
That's the kind of coupon that gets turned away.
Coupons hold no cash value, and all negative balances must be adjusted.
So a 75-cent coupon on a 50-cent item won't put 25 cents back in your hand.
Only four coupons on four of the same product are accepted per household per day.
Weis reserves the right to limit quantities, too.
6. Leaving Without Your Receipt
Weis Markets prints all of your Weis Rewards Points on the bottom of your receipt, according to its rewards FAQ.
The answer on whether points expire starts with a yes, then sends you to that receipt for your total and the end date of the promotion.
It's your responsibility to be aware of the date the redemption period ends.
If you skip the receipt, you can still check your points online by logging in to your MyWeis account.
7. Checking Out Without Your Card
Weis's eCoupons page says to scan your Weis Rewards Card at check out to receive the eCoupon discount on all qualifying purchases.
So a clipped eCoupon needs your card at the register.
Expired eCoupons are removed from your account automatically.
When Doubling Coupons Ended
Your old coupon math at Weis Markets changed effective February 20, 2022, when it stopped doubling manufacturer's coupons, according to its coupon policy.
Say a 50-cent coupon for a tin of Old Bay now takes off 50 cents.
Weis doesn't allow more than one manufacturer's coupon against a single item in a single transaction.
So a second coupon on that tin of Old Bay can't make up the difference.
What the Price Accuracy Policy Covers
Weis Markets guarantees that the price charged at its registers on any item is correct.
That covers items you scan, price look-ups and items with a manually entered price.
If the price you're charged is higher than the shelf or advertised price, you receive the item at the lowest represented price.
Any displayed or posted price counts as a shelf tag price, so you aren't limited to the tag on the shelf.
The exception is an ad retraction posted at the customer service desk.
The policy is void where federal, state or local law prohibits it.
