8 Services at the Publix Customer Service Desk Many Floridians Haven’t Tried

Pub Subs get much of the love at Publix.

Meanwhile, the Customer Service desk can save Floridians a trip to the bank.

Here’s what else it can do that many shoppers haven’t tried.

Note: This is general information, not financial advice. Fees and limits are subject to change.

1. Coin Redemption

Publix’s Customer Service counter turns your loose change into cash, though a coin sorting machine does the counting first.

According to Publix, the machine counts all of your coins and gives you a receipt.

You then redeem that receipt for cash at the counter.

Fees may apply, so ask your store about charges before you haul in a jar of coins.

2. Check Cashing

Publix lists check cashing among the services available right at Customer Service.

Check cashing covers personal and payroll checks at all stores, according to Publix’s customer service FAQ.

It’s pitched as a way to save yourself an extra trip to the bank.

You’ll need ID, such as a driver license, a state-issued photo identification card or military identification.

3. Money Orders

Publix sells money orders, but it doesn’t cash them.

Western Union provides the money orders at Publix’s Customer Service counter.

Publix says a money order is a lot like a check.

You don’t need a bank account.

Buying one is just like buying anything else.

There’s a catch, though. Credit cards aren’t accepted for money order purchases.

Western Union’s Rules for a Publix Money Order

In a February 2026 post, Western Union says a Publix money order costs $1, though the exact fee may vary by location.

You’ll also need a valid form of identification.

4. Money Transfers

Publix handles Western Union money transfers at the Customer Service counter.

You can send money to friends or family, make payments or load prepaid cards, according to the financial services page.

The company also offers Western Union bill pay.

That includes paying credit cards, rent and utility bills while you shop.

Western Union advertises an $8 fee to send up to $1,000 from one Publix to another in the US, excluding Kentucky.

What about the person collecting?

That person needs a government-issued photo ID and the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN).

5. Rain Checks

If your Publix is out of stock on a sale item, Publix says its management teams will issue you a rain check.

Visit the Customer Service counter to request a rain check.

Publix’s rain check policy allows up to 8 single items, or up to 4 deals with no more than 20 items.

It issues only one rain check per household per day for any one item or deal on promotion, and you have to redeem it within 30 days.

The policy covers items advertised outside the store at a reduced price, such as on radio or TV, or in the weekly ad, but not alcohol.

A rain check must be redeemed for the exact product it was issued for.

Rain checks are for single use, so if you don’t redeem the full rain check, you forfeit the remaining items.

6. Purchase-History Refunds

Club Publix members get online purchase history that works just like paper receipts, according to the company’s e-receipts FAQ.

If you aren’t fully satisfied with an item, show your purchase history to a Customer Service associate.

You can show an electronic version from your mobile device or a printed copy.

Publix keeps purchase history for up to six months, or 180 days.

With a receipt, Publix will replace the item or give you a full refund in the form of your original payment.

If you paid by card or entered your phone number at checkout, Publix may be able to look up your receipt.

Without a receipt Publix can find, you may need to identify yourself as a Club Publix member or show a government-issued photo ID.

You’ll then get credit in the form of a Publix gift card.

7. Instacart Returns

Publix’s Instacart FAQ says you can return the item at the customer service counter in the store.

You can also contact Instacart’s Care Team.

There’s an email address, a phone number and the Publix Delivery and Pickup app to reach that team.

8. Competitor Coupon List

Publix posts a list of competitors whose coupons it accepts in each of its stores.

Ask Customer Service at your local Publix for that list, and you won’t need to guess.

The competitor coupon page says Publix will accept a coupon for a competitor’s private label product.

Private label means store brand.

Publix will also accept BOGO and buy-one-get-two-free coupons from competitors’ stores if you’re buying identical merchandise.

Club Publix Perks and Money Services

Publix says Club Publix offers and perks can’t be redeemed on money services, gift cards or prescriptions.

If you’re counting on a Club Publix perk to trim what you pay for a transfer or money order, the terms rule that out.

The portion of any transaction made up of taxes or fees is excluded as well.

Presto! ATMs

Publix also offers Presto! automated teller machines (ATMs) if you only need cash.

Presto!

ATMs are at more than 1,400 Publix stores across eight states, according to the Presto! site.

If your bank is a Presto! network member, you can get cash there without paying ATM surcharge fees.

The limit is $400 per transaction.

You can make multiple transactions.

Some banks charge a fee for using an ATM they don’t own.
