RaceTrac is nearly $20 million into remodeling 30 stores across Dallas-Fort Worth, convenience-store trade outlet C-Store Dive reported this year.
A gas station doesn’t usually get that kind of money.
These are the RaceTrac features most Texas gas stations don’t have.
1. Nearly 30 Self-Serve Drinks
RaceTrac’s drink wall covers a lot more ground than a single soda gun.
A soda gun and one slushie machine is what many Texas gas stations offer instead.
It runs two full walls.
The self-serve fountain pours more than 20 flavors, from Coca-Cola and Dr Pepper to aguas frescas and Big Red, in cups up to 40 ounces.
A separate station next to it pours rotating slushie flavors in the same three sizes, also topping out at 40 ounces.
2. Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Bar
RaceTrac built a self-serve frozen yogurt bar into many of its stores, under the name Swirl World.
Nobody scoops it for you.
Customers work down the line filling a cup with flavors like watermelon creamsicle and sea salt caramel pretzel, then loading on toppings from gummy bears to crushed waffle pieces.
RaceTrac lists about 18 flavors and roughly as many toppings, though the exact lineup shifts store to store.
Ordinary Texas gas stations skip the frozen yogurt bar and stick to a candy aisle.
That $20 million remodel is what’s putting the topping bar in more Dallas-Fort Worth stores this year.
3. Coffee Ground Fresh to Order
RaceTrac grinds coffee fresh for every cup instead of letting a pot sit for hours.
Every cup starts from scratch.
The machines grind whole beans on demand across six blends, including Guatemalan, hazelnut, and dark roast.
A typical Texas gas station still runs coffee off a warming plate, refilled every hour or two whether the pot’s fresh or not.
RaceTrac’s version skips the wait.
4. Whole Pizzas Baked In-House
RaceTrac bakes its pizza in-house, and a customer can buy the whole pie, not just a slice.
A rotisserie case doesn’t compare.
The X-Large pie runs $12.99, alongside Pepperoni, Sausage & Pepperoni, Bacon Cheeseburger, and Breakfast Pizza sold by the slice.
RaceTrac keeps pies coming out of the oven throughout the day, not just at lunch.

5. Diesel Lanes Built for Truckers
RaceTrac's high-flow diesel lanes come with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) right at the pump.
Nobody carries a jug over.
The chain reached its 100th location with high-flow diesel in Grapevine, Texas, in August 2025, after starting the buildout in 2018.
Many Texas stations still hand a driver a standard nozzle and a separate DEF jug off the shelf inside.
What RaceTrac's DEF Pumps Do
RaceTrac's high-flow lanes dispense diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), a mix of purified water and urea that breaks down nitrogen oxide in a truck's exhaust before it leaves the tailpipe.
Federal emissions rules require the system, called selective catalytic reduction, on nearly all new on-road diesel trucks.
A truck that runs low on DEF loses power and eventually won't start.
That's why RaceTrac sells it right next to the diesel nozzle, not on a shelf inside.
6. Dedicated EV Charging Canopy
RaceTrac's fast electric vehicle (EV) chargers sit under a dedicated canopy at select Dallas-Fort Worth stores.
It's already there.
The direct current (DC) fast chargers can add a meaningful charge in about 20 minutes, with stations in Grand Prairie, Garland, Forney, Wylie, and Irving.
Many Texas gas stations still offer nothing beyond a regular pump, let alone a fast charger under a dedicated shelter.
7. Certified Scales for Truckers
RaceTrac hosts truck scales certified by CAT Scale (a truck-scale certification network with more than 1,675 U.S. and Canada locations) at its travel-center-style locations built for professional drivers.
One stop covers both.
The chain runs the scales at more than 130 locations built for professional drivers, letting a trucker weigh a loaded rig without leaving the property.
Ordinary Texas stations send a trucker looking for the nearest public scale house, often miles out of the way.
A Georgia Chain With Deep Texas Roots
RaceTrac started in 1934, long before the first Texas store ever opened.
One family still owns it.
The chain pioneered self-service gas pumps in Alabama and Georgia starting in 1970.
It moved its headquarters to Atlanta in 1976, then adopted the RaceTrac name in 1979.
RaceTrac now runs stores across 14 states, all still tracing back to that same Georgia office.
Roughly 50 Texas cities carry a RaceTrac sign today, many of them clustered around Dallas-Fort Worth.
RaceTrac's stores reached the Dallas-Fort Worth market in 1975, four years before they took the RaceTrac name.
Dallas alone carries 17 RaceTrac locations today.
