New Jerseyans Remember a $4 Wawa Shorti. This Year’s Meal Deal Is $6

Some prices stick in your head, and a cheap Wawa hoagie is one of them.

New Jerseyans who remember the old deal may wince at today’s menu, though the comparison isn’t quite apples to apples.

Here’s how that old Shorti price stacks up against what you’d pay now.

Where the $4 Comes From

Wawa’s June 2019 release lists $4 for a Shorti and $5 for a Classic.

The deal ran from June 24 through August 11 at all Mid-Atlantic Wawa stores and in the District of Columbia.

No individual states are listed.

In November 2021, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on a six-inch Shorti at a Wawa on Concord Pike.

It had cost $4 during the last pre-pandemic summer Hoagiefest.

Concord Pike is in Delaware.

It runs along the Route 202 corridor, between Wilmington and the Pennsylvania line.

So the Inquirer’s $4 was a Delaware store’s price, not a price from a New Jersey store.

How the Shorti Price Climbed

Wawa launched Hoagiefest in 2008, per the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS).

At that first Hoagiefest, Wawa featured a different Shorti every two weeks for $2.99.

The 2019 price of $4 was $1.01 higher.

By the summer of 2021, a Shorti at that Concord Pike Wawa listed for $4.39, the Inquirer found.

In November 2021, the same Shorti started at $4.99.

That’s 99 cents more than the $4 from the last pre-pandemic summer Hoagiefest.

A Wawa spokesperson said costs had risen in some cases.

The spokesperson said Wawa prices remained competitive.

The Inquirer also reported that six-inch Shortis at Wawa had risen about 60 cents to $5.

Wawa’s 2023 Hoagiefest priced a Shorti at $5 and a Classic at $6.

The 2024 Hoagiefest listed the same $5 and $6.

That was a dollar more for either sandwich than the 2019 prices of $4 and $5.

On the Shorti, a jump from $4 to $5 is 25%.

What Wawa Means by Shorti

Wawa’s Shorti is a 6-inch hoagie and its Classic is a 10-inch hoagie.

Every Classic price in this story buys a longer sandwich than any Shorti price.

The 2025 $6-and-Under Menu

Wawa’s 2025 Hoagiefest priced many items at $6 and under.

They were breakfast and lunch classics, Shortis, quesadillas, clubs, wraps and roasted and crispy chicken sandwiches.

It ran from June 23 through July 27, 2025, in all 1,100-plus Wawa stores, per NACS.

It was the first Hoagiefest to include more Wawa sandwich types.

In 2025, you could get a Shorti, a club or a quesadilla for $6 or less.

The 2026 $6 Shorti and $8 Classic Meal Deals

Wawa’s 2026 Hoagiefest ran five weeks, from June 22 through July 26, in all 1,200-plus Wawa stores, per NACS.

That includes New Jersey, where 94.3 The Point reported the same $6 and $8 deals on June 30.

The $6 Shorti Meal Deal let you pick any Shorti hoagie, wrap or chicken sandwich.

A small bag of Herr’s chips and a small fountain drink were included.

The $8 Classic Meal Deal covered any Classic hoagie with the same chips and drink.

The 2026 meal deal also added limited-time, Hoagiefest-branded Herr’s original kettle chips.

The same release lists a limited-time Southwest barbecue sauce and pickled onions topping.

Shorti Versus Classic, 2019 to 2026

Wawa’s Classic cost $1 more than its Shorti in 2019, when the release listed $4 and $5.

The 2023 and 2024 prices of $5 and $6 held that $1 gap.

The 2026 meal deals of $6 and $8 put the gap at $2.

If you picked the Classic Meal Deal over the Shorti Meal Deal in 2026, you paid $2 more for a 10-inch hoagie instead of a 6-inch one.

Both 2026 deals include a small bag of Herr’s chips and a small fountain drink.

The Classic Meal Deal’s $8 is $3 above the $5 listed for a 2019 Classic.

Question 1 of 9

When did New Jersey’s ban on pumping gas yourself begin?

A $4 Sandwich Versus a $6 Meal

Wawa's $4 Shorti and its $6 Shorti Meal Deal don't measure the same thing.

If you divide $6 by $4, you get a 50% jump.

But that math treats a bag of chips and a small fountain drink as part of the sandwich.

The Classic works the same way, with $8 for a 2026 meal against $6 for a 2024 sandwich.

The Inquirer's figures have a similar gap. They set a Hoagiefest price beside two listed prices at one store.
