Georgia Access Open Enrollment: 5 Dates Georgians Need for 2027 Coverage

Pick a Georgia Access plan by Dec. 15, and your coverage can start Jan. 1.

Open enrollment is already underway, and the day you sign up decides when your plan begins.

Here are the dates Georgians need for 2027 coverage, so you know exactly when your plan starts.

Note: This is general information, not insurance advice. Enrollment dates and coverage terms are subject to change, so check the specifics with Georgia Access or your insurer or agent.

Did Georgia Access Open Enrollment Get Shorter for 2027?

Georgia Access open enrollment didn’t get shorter for 2027, and your window matches the one for 2026 coverage.

The exchange lists Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, the same stretch it ran for 2026 coverage.

The 2025 Marketplace Integrity and Affordability rule would have shortened that stretch.

Under it, enrollment would have ended Dec. 15 on HealthCare.gov and no later than Dec. 31 on state-run exchanges.

But a federal judge in Maryland struck down the shorter window in June 2026, so it never took effect.

What the Appeal Means for Your Georgia Access Dates

The federal government has appealed the Maryland ruling and asked the 4th Circuit to decide the case by Dec. 31.

The schedule could still change starting with fall 2027 enrollment, depending on the appeal, healthinsurance.org says.

Before you rely on any date here, check the Georgia Access site again.

1. November 1: Opening Day

Georgia Access opened enrollment for 2027 coverage on Nov. 1, the first day you could pick a plan.

Georgia Access skipped window shopping for 2027 plans and cited changes without saying what they were, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Window shopping, the preview stretch when you can browse plans before enrollment opens, started on Oct. 1, 2025, for 2026 coverage.

HealthCare.gov lists Nov. 1 as its opening day for 2027 coverage too.

2. December 15: January Coverage Cutoff

Georgia Access’s coverage-start page names Dec. 15 as the last day for you to pick a plan that begins Jan. 1.

HealthCare.gov lists the same Dec. 15 cutoff for 2027 coverage, and many states use it too.

That cutoff applies if you’re changing plans as well as signing up.

For 2026 coverage, Georgia Access set the same Dec. 15 cutoff for a Jan. 1 start.

3. January 1: Coverage Start

Your Georgia Access start date comes from the day you submit your enrollment, and the help center says it can’t provide retroactive start dates.

To activate a Jan. 1 plan on Georgia Access, you must pay your first premium to your insurer by its deadline, or your coverage is canceled for the year.

If you’re switching plans, check when your current coverage ends before you pick.

4. January 15: Closing Day

Your last day to pick a 2027 plan on Georgia Access is Jan. 15, 2027.

HealthCare.gov's window for 2027 coverage closes the same day.

After that, you generally need a qualifying life event to enroll.

5. February 1: Second Start Date

Georgia Access gives plans you pick from Dec. 16 through Jan. 15 a Feb. 1 start.

HealthCare.gov's 2027 calendar lists the same Feb. 1 start for plans picked in that stretch.

Georgia Access used the same split for 2026 coverage, with Feb. 1 starts for plans picked after the Dec. 15 cutoff.

A plan you pick on Dec. 16 starts the same day as one you pick on Jan. 15.

By that calendar, a plan you pick on Jan. 15 wouldn't start until Feb. 1, so January would pass without it.

What If You Miss Georgia Access Open Enrollment?

Georgia Access offers a special enrollment period if your circumstances change after open enrollment closes.

You have either 60 or 90 days before or after the event to enroll, depending on the type.

Qualifying events include losing other coverage, losing Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids eligibility, and turning 26 and aging off a parent's plan.

Getting married, having or adopting a child, and moving to a new ZIP code or to Georgia from another state count too.

You may have to submit documents to prove the event, such as a birth certificate for a new child.

A plan you pick through a special enrollment period usually starts on the first day of the month after your plan selection.

Does Georgia Access Renew Your Plan Automatically?

Georgia Access gives you the option to be re-enrolled automatically in your same plan for the next year.

Unless you opt out, Georgia Access sends a renewal notice in October, ahead of open enrollment.

Check which plan you're in before Dec. 15, the last day to switch and still start Jan. 1.

How Does Georgia's Deadline Compare With Other States?

State-run exchanges don't all close on Georgia Access's date of Jan. 15.

Idaho closes Dec. 15, while California, D.C., New Jersey and New York stay open through Jan. 31, healthinsurance.org's state list shows.

If you're helping family in another state, check that state's site before you share your dates.
