Do Walmart’s Rollbacks Add Up to Real Relief for Arkansans?

Saving big on one item doesn’t always mean saving big at the register.

Walmart shared a July list of before-and-after prices, and Arkansans can still use it to see how price cuts really work.

Here’s what the numbers show, and what they leave out.

Walmart’s July 6 Release

Walmart says it has thousands of lower prices.

They’re called Rollbacks at Walmart and offers at Sam’s Club, in stores and clubs nationwide.

It names grocery, household essentials, outdoor living, toys and apparel as the categories with lower prices.

Walmart prints an earlier price, marked “was,” for nine Walmart listings and four Sam’s Club items.

The Rollback prices on those listings run from $0.25 for an ear of corn to $9.97 for a 24-pack of soda.

Every was-and-now price you read below comes from Walmart’s July 6, 2026 release.

The release sets no end date for the Rollbacks, and some may have ended, so what you see on a shelf today may not match these July 6 prices.

Any cut, total, per-unit or percent figure is arithmetic on those printed numbers, rounded.

Walmart says the featured Rollbacks are at most Walmart stores, so the shelf tag at your store may differ.

Fresh Food Rollbacks

Walmart’s Rollback on fresh sweet corn on the cob is $0.25 each, down from $0.68.

That’s a cut of 43 cents.

At that price, a dozen ears cost $3.00. At $0.68 each, they’d cost $8.16.

Walmart’s 2.25-pound bag of fresh red cherries is $5.63, down from $11.18.

That works out to about $2.50 a pound now, compared with about $4.97 before.

You’d pay $5.55 less for the bag. That’s the largest dollar cut among the Walmart prices in this list.

Walmart’s one-pound roll of 73% ground beef is $5.94, down from $6.74.

That’s an 80-cent cut.

Snacks, Plates and Soda

Walmart lists two soda 24-pack groups among its Rollbacks, the Coca-Cola listing and the Pepsi listing.

Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs go from $14.97 to $9.97.

That’s a $5.00 cut.

Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and Diet Mountain Dew 24-packs land at the same $9.97 after an earlier $13.97.

That’s a $4.00 cut.

Divide $9.97 by the 24 sodas in a pack, and you pay about 42 cents for a Diet Coke or a Dr. Pepper.

Before, you would have paid about 62 cents for a Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and about 58 cents for a Diet Pepsi.

Great Value ice cream (48 fluid ounces) and Lay’s Classic potato chips (an 8-ounce bag) are each $2.50, down from $2.97.

That’s a 47-cent cut.

The 18-count Frito-Lay Family Fun Variety Pack and the 200-count Great Value disposable paper plates are each $8.97, down from $9.97.

That’s a $1.00 cut.

How did Sam Walton get the red and green tiles at the entrance of the Walmart Museum in Bentonville?

Sam's Club Offers

Walmart's release calls the lower prices at Sam's Club offers.

Sam's Club says the offers cover more than 250 items, across road trip snacks, grilling essentials and summer entertaining favorites.

Earlier prices are given for four of those items. All four are Member's Mark products.

Member's Mark bone-in chicken wings cost $2.00 a pound, down from $2.88 a pound.

The cut is 88 cents a pound, the biggest among the Sam's Club per-pound prices in this list.

Buy 10 pounds of wings at those prices, and the total is $20.00.

At the earlier price, it's $28.80.

Member's Mark beef hot dogs are $10.86, down from $12.96.

That's a $2.10 cut.

Member's Mark 88/12 ground beef is $5.97 a pound, down from $6.17.

That's a 20-cent cut.

Walmart's roll is labeled 73% ground beef and Sam's Club's package 88/12.

So if you compare the $5.94 and $5.97 prices, they aren't a like-for-like pair.

Member's Mark whole bone-in pork back ribs are $3.18 a pound, down from $3.48.

That's a 30-cent cut.

Gaps in the Price List

Walmart's release doesn't total any basket of its Rollbacks. So a savings figure for your full cart isn't in it.

It also leaves out any other retailer's prices for the same items. So it can't tell you whether another store sells them for less.

No weight is given for the hot dogs. So the $2.10 can't be compared with the per-pound cuts.

What a Walmart "Was" Price Means

Walmart's July 6 release marks each earlier price as "was," such as $11.18 for the 2.25-pound bag of cherries.

The Federal Trade Commission's pricing guides cover this kind of comparison.

If you read a "was" price, the commission's test is whether it was the "actual, bona fide price" the store offered the public.

Under that test, the store must have offered it on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period.

Percent Off, Item by Item

Walmart's printed prices let you measure relief item by item. Just ask what percent of each earlier price came off.

On the Walmart listings, the cuts run from 10% on the Frito-Lay Family Fun Variety Pack and the Great Value paper plates to 63% on the corn.

In between, the beef roll is 12% off. The ice cream and chips are 16% off.

The Pepsi listing's packs are 29% off, the Coca-Cola listing's packs 33% and the cherries 50%.

So the cherries are about half off.

At Sam's Club, the cuts run from 3% on the 88/12 ground beef to 31% on the wings, with the ribs at 9% and the hot dogs at 16%.

Walmart's printed price on the corn drops 63% from the earlier $0.68, while its printed price on the paper plates drops 10% from $9.97.

The deepest percent cut is on the corn, but that saves you only 43 cents. The cherries save $5.55. A big percent off a cheap item can still be small money.
