Donald Trump’s Roller Coaster Net Worth, 10-Year Breakdown

In 2023, Donald Trump made news for missing out on The Forbes 400 list for the second time in three years. The Forbes 400, initiated by Forbes itself, ranks the top 400 wealthiest individuals in America.

That said, former president Trump is far from poor; had he had $300 million more to his name when Forbes ran its rankings, he would have squeezed into 400th place.

So, just how much net worth has Trump had over the past ten years? It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, based on Forbes’ data.

Like so many people in the top 1% in America, Forbes has a long history of keeping tabs on Trump’s net worth. They note that much of Trump’s net worth is due to real estate in New York City, golf courses, and a winery.

Trump also maintains a stake in the social media app Truth Social, which at one point had an estimated valuation of over $15 billion. Unfortunately for him, Truth Social didn’t take off as he and others expected. It now has a negative impact on Trump’s net worth.

The following is Trump’s net worth between 2015 and 2024, according to Forbes. If you think Trump has a lot of money, wait until you read about the billionaires who made it higher up on The Forbes 400, which we’ll cover at the end of this article.

Forbes keeps its finger on the pulse of the net worth of high-profile individuals; they have a real-time tracker for Donald Trump. So, the 2024 number shown for Trump may have fluctuated by the time you read this article.

The reason for Trump’s sudden jump in net worth in 2024 between an average of $2.5 billion in 2023 and over $7 billion now is that Trump Media & Technology Group merged with Digital World Acquisition Corp. That merge made Trump the richest he’d ever been at the time ($6.5 billion in net worth).

Getting Richer

As of April 2024, there are 2,781 billionaires in the world. That’s the most billionaires in the world to date: 141 more billionaires than 2023 and 26 more than the last record, which was set in 2021.

The good news for these ultra-rich folks? Two-thirds have increased their net worth over the past year. Only 25% are poorer than a year ago.

The majority of the world’s billionaires live in the United States — 813, to be exact. China trails far behind us, with 473 billionaires to its name, including those who live in Hong Kong. India has the third-highest number of billionaires (200).

Elon Musk is currently the richest American in the U.S., with a net worth of $195 billion. The ultra-intelligent and eccentric Musk owns six companies, with Tesla and SpaceX being some of his businesses he’s most known for.

Musk was born into a wealthy South African family in 1971. In the 1980s, he left South Africa to study in Canada, followed by the U.S. However, Musk decided that studying at Standford University wasn’t for him. He dropped out and co-founded a city guide software company called Zip2, which was later acquired for $305 million. The rest of Musk’s story is history in the making.

Musk and Jeff Bezos have been notoriously neck and neck with their net worth. At the moment, Amazon founder Bezos has $194 billion to his name. That makes him the second-richest person in the U.S. and only $1 billion poorer than Musk. By the time you read this, Bezos could very well have a higher net worth than Musk.

Bezos had a wildly different upbringing than Musk. He was born to teenage parents and worked at his grandparents’ ranch in Texas. That said, he, too, had access to a quality education — Princeton University, which he graduated from with two degrees to his name. His idea to start his online business, Amazon, came to him when he was working at an investment bank, where he moved his way up to a position where he was in charge of researching investment possibilities using the internet.
