Publix Closed 6 Stores in 2026, Including 5 in Florida. Where Shoppers Will Feel It

If you shopped the Southern Boulevard Publix in West Palm Beach, Publix’s store locator doesn’t list it anymore.

It’s one of six Publix stores that closed in 2026, and five of them were in Florida.

Here’s where those closings leave a gap for shoppers like you, and where they don’t.

Kendall’s Mills Drive Store

Publix closed its Palms at Town & Country store at 8250 Mills Drive in Kendall at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17.

Publix says a new store will be built in its place.

The Miami Herald reported in March that the new store is expected to open with a larger footprint in a couple of years.

The store included a pharmacy, so you needed a new place for prescriptions as well as groceries.

Publix named four other stores you can use in the meantime.

Two are Kendall Mall at 9041 Southwest 107th Avenue and Market Square at 11750 Southwest 104th Street.

The others are Higate Square at 13820 Southwest 88th Street and The Crossings Shopping Village at 13001 Southwest 112th Street.

Largo’s Ulmerton Road Store

The Largo Mall Publix at 10500 Ulmerton Road closed on Feb. 28 for demolition and a smaller store.

The old building was demolished in late April, the Tampa Bay Beacons reported.

Publix plans to replace the nearly 79,000-square-foot store with a building of about 52,000 square feet.

That makes the new store about a third smaller than the old store.

A Publix spokeswoman said the project is expected to take a year.

As of Nov. 2, Publix’s store locator lists Paradise Shoppes of Largo at 10411 Ulmerton Road, so your trip could stay on the same road.

St. Petersburg’s Park Street Store

On March 7 at 7 p.m., Publix closed its Eagles Park Retail Center store at 5577 Park Street North in St. Petersburg.

A new Publix opened on March 12 at 6605 38th Avenue North, Business Observer reported.

Tampa Bay Newspapers reported the move, which puts the new store about three miles from the old one.

The same report says the move eliminates walking access for two 55-and-older communities near the old store.

If you walked to the old store, you’re now looking at a trip of about three miles.

Because the new store opened five days after the old store closed, this was a move across town, not a wait for a rebuild.

Palm Bay’s Babcock Street Store

After nearly 50 years at 4711 Babcock Street Northeast, Publix closed its Palm Bay Center store on July 11.

WhatNow reported in July that Publix plans to demolish the building and rebuild the store on the same site.

The report gave no reopening date.

Plans for the site reportedly include a separate building for a Publix Liquors store.

As of Nov. 2, options on Publix’s store locator include the Shoppes of Palm Bay at 1150 Malabar Road Southeast and the Shoppes at Cypress Bay at 9179 Babcock Street Southeast.

The Melbourne store at 1411 South Babcock Street is on the list too.

The locator also shows Publix at Bayside Lakes at 3450 Bayside Lakes Boulevard Southeast in Palm Bay.

Until the rebuild is done, your trips that used to end on Babcock Street Northeast will end somewhere else.

West Palm Beach’s Southern Boulevard Store

The Publix supermarket on Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach closed on Sept. 26 so the store can be rebuilt, the Palm Beach Post reported.

WPTV had reported that the Southdale Shopping Center store at 828 Southern Boulevard was scheduled to close at 7 p.m. that day.

Associates will move to other Publix stores in the area during the rebuild.

WPTV lists Belmart Plaza at 500 Belvedere Road as the nearest store, about 1.3 miles from Southdale.

WPTV also lists Greenwood Shopping Centre on South Congress Avenue in Palm Springs at about 4.1 miles away.

Its list puts Village Commons on Village Boulevard at about 5.1 miles away and Crosstown Plaza on North Military Trail at about 6.2 miles away.

As of Nov. 2, Publix’s store locator no longer listed a store at 828 Southern Boulevard.

An Oct. 6 Inc. roundup lists the store as a redevelopment that will be rebuilt and says Publix hasn’t announced when it will reopen.

With no reopening date announced, a Publix spokeswoman said the nearest store is about 1.3 miles from Southdale, WPTV reported.

What Publix Reports About Replacement Stores

Publix’s annual report for fiscal 2025 lists 52 supermarkets opened, including 13 replacements.

The 13 replacements took the place of two stores closed in 2025 and 11 closed in an earlier period.

Six stores closed in 2025 will be replaced on site in a later period, and two won’t be replaced.

The report puts the replacement period for a store replaced on site at generally 12 to 15 months.

Goose Creek’s St. James Avenue Store

In January 2026, Publix closed its Goose Creek store at 208 St. James Avenue for a teardown and rebuild on the same site.

Goose Creek is the one South Carolina store among the six.

The Post and Courier reported in December 2025 that Publix would also demolish the former restaurant space next door to make room for a larger, full-service store.

Publix told the Berkeley Independent the rebuild would take close to a year, with no exact date.

If your Publix trip started on St. James Avenue, the Marketplace at Carnes Crossroads, which opened Oct. 15, 2025, is about six miles away.

Where Other Lists Differ

Publix's closings add up differently depending on the roundup you read.

A Supermarket News list published Oct. 7, 2026 names seven stores, including both Georgia locations, and leaves out the Largo Mall store.

Atlanta News First reported that Publix's Atlantic Station and Chamblee stores in Georgia would close for good on Dec. 27, 2025.

Fast Company's July roundup says two Georgia locations shuttered at the end of 2025, which puts them outside this year's closings.

These closings come from local news reports, each with a date or month.

This isn't a complete list of every Publix that has closed.

How Long Rebuilds Take

Publix reopened a rebuilt store on Daniel Island in South Carolina on Dec. 3, 2025, after an 11-month construction phase, the Post and Courier reported.

The full project took a year, so a rebuild can keep your regular store closed for a year or more.

A Publix at 1295 South Missouri Avenue on the Clearwater-Largo line was demolished in September 2024 and reopened March 5, 2026.

A Melbourne Publix on Lake Washington Road closed in April 2022 for a rebuild-remodel and reopened on May 18, 2023, after a 13½-month closure.
