6 Kroger Perks West Virginians Leave on the Table

Kroger’s Fuel Points are called plain Points now.

Groceries cost enough already, and a few minutes of setup may make your Shopper’s Card work harder.

These are the Kroger perks many West Virginians leave on the table.

Note: This is general information, not medical or financial advice. Program terms and point values are subject to change.

1. Digital Coupons

Kroger’s digital coupons load straight onto your Shopper’s Card.

You start by creating an account online or in the Kroger app and adding your Shopper’s Card to it.

Once you click Load to Card on an offer, the discount applies automatically when you scan your card or enter your Alt ID at the register.

Many shoppers swipe the card before loading any offers.

Load first, scan second.

Kroger limits many offers to one load per household.

Each coupon shows an expiration date, so check it before you plan dinner around the discount.

On your receipt, Kroger labels digital coupons ecpn, so you can spot the savings.

Your digital coupons work at any store in the Kroger family, as long as the product is in stock.

2. Points at the Pump

At Kroger, 1 Point comes with every $1 you spend on most groceries.

Pickup and Delivery orders earn Points too.

Every 100 Points takes 10 cents off a gallon of gas, up to $1 off per gallon.

Kroger’s store directory lists fuel centers in many West Virginia cities, including Beckley, Huntington, Morgantown and Parkersburg.

If no Kroger gas station is near you, participating partner gas stations take Points too.

Gas purchases don’t earn Points, so your groceries pay for the gas and not the reverse.

What Kroger Points Are Worth

Kroger Points take $1 off your groceries for every 100 Points, up to $10 a day.

Say you spend $400 on groceries that earn Points. That earns 400 Points, worth $4 off groceries or 40 cents off each gallon of gas.

The gas discount covers one purchase of up to 35 gallons, so 40 cents off saves you $14 at most.

Points expire on the last day of the month after you earn them, so October’s Points are good through November.

3. Free Pickup

Pickup at Kroger is free on orders of $35 or more.

Smaller orders carry a $4.95 service fee, though restrictions may apply.

If your order sits at $32, adding a $3 item may beat paying the fee.

Coupons loaded to your Shopper’s Card apply to a Pickup order automatically.

Kroger lets you book a Pickup time slot up to seven days ahead, so next week’s groceries can be ordered today.

If you bring paper coupons to Pickup, you hand them over in person, and that may slow your pickup time.

If you accept a substitution, you pay the price of the substituted item.

Kroger says it can’t offer Pickup at every one of its stores currently, so check your store.

4. Boost Free Trial

Kroger has offered new Boost members a 30-day free trial, when available.

Boost’s terms add that a free trial isn’t guaranteed and that Boost may not be available in all ZIP codes.

You must be 18 or older and have a registered digital account to enroll.

Boost members get free same-day or next-day delivery on orders of $35 or more, depending on availability.

Members earn 2X Points on groceries and general merchandise.

On a $400 grocery month, 2X Points means 800 Points, worth $8 off groceries.

Annual members can add Disney+, Hulu or ESPN+ (all with ads), but only after the trial ends.

Boost’s extra benefits don’t apply to gas or prescription purchases.

Kroger asks for payment information to start the trial.

Then Kroger charges your card for an annual membership when the trial ends, unless you cancel first.

You can cancel anytime in Membership Management.

Each household gets one trial, so put the end date on your calendar the day you sign up.

5. Freshness Guarantee

The Freshness Guarantee at Kroger promises a replacement or refund if you don’t love an item.

It covers produce with a freshness problem, plus Kroger Brand, Simple Truth and Private Selection products that didn’t meet your expectations.

A bag of grapes gone mushy by Tuesday may count as a freshness problem.

Take the item back to a Kroger store for a replacement.

For a refund, contact live chat or call 1-800-KROGERS.

Online orders go through your Purchase History, where you can request a refund.

Kroger limits app refunds to Pickup and Delivery orders.

Alcohol, gift cards, taxes and fees don’t qualify.

6. Prescription Points

Prescriptions filled at Kroger earn Points too.

Prescriptions that a federal program doesn't pay for earn 25 Points, or 75 for a 90-day prescription.

If a federal program pays for your prescription, you earn 1 Point for every $1 of out-of-pocket cost.

At $1 off groceries for every 100 Points, 75 Points is worth 75 cents.

Kroger's pharmacy page adds a caveat: Savings may vary by state.

Kroger Stores Across West Virginia

Kroger has 36 grocery stores across 26 cities in West Virginia.

The chain has 35 pharmacies across 25 cities, so you can earn Points on prescriptions in places such as Beckley, Clarksburg, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Wheeling.

In Huntington, the directory lists two fuel centers, on 5th Avenue and 7th Avenue West.

If you shop around Charleston, Kroger's store directory lists five stores that offer Pickup.

Those are Cross Lanes, Delaware Avenue, Kanawha City, Marmet and South Hills.
