6 Ways Floridians Pay More When Publix Delivers Than When They Shop in Person

The digital coupons you clipped to your Club Publix account won’t work on a delivery order.

With Thanksgiving groceries likely on your list soon, that’s worth knowing before you fill your cart online.

Here’s how Floridians pay more when Publix delivers than when they shop in person.

1. Increased Item Prices

Publix delivery orders carry item prices that vary from its store prices, according to a footnote on the Shop Online page.

Delivery and Curbside Pickup carry that footnote, while the In-Store Pickup listing, as of October 2026, carries none.

Publix’s delivery FAQ goes further and describes the delivery price as increased, which we think deserves a closer look even though no store gets everything right.

The website indicates the price of each item, so you see every price in your cart.

Who Charges What

Publix says the increased price covers what Instacart spends providing the service, including shopping your order, and that it isn’t attempting to profit from it.

Publix isn’t collecting additional fees from customers for delivery, and Instacart charges fees based on several factors.

The Instacart site you enter after clicking through is one Instacart operates and controls.

2. Coupons That Don’t Redeem

Publix says you can’t redeem the printed and digital coupons clipped to your Club Publix account on an Instacart order.

If your list leans on clipped coupons, you’d pay for those items without the discount.

No exceptions to that limit are named.

3. Deals That May Not Apply

Publix says you can redeem most BOGOs and Club Publix perks through Instacart, but not all Publix deals or weekly ad promotions apply.

The deals that fall outside aren’t named.

The weekly ad item you circled may not carry over to your delivery order, which could leave your total higher than you planned.

Link your Club Publix account by adding your phone number under “Loyalty cards” on the Instacart site or Publix Delivery app.

4. Delivery and Service Fees

Publix’s Shop Online page says fees, tips and taxes may apply to delivery orders on top of the item prices, and that delivery is subject to terms and availability.

Publix lists no grocery delivery fee amounts in its FAQ, which refers fee questions to the shop page.

Instacart’s fee terms say the delivery fee varies with the retailer, the delivery window and your order total.

That means two orders from the same Publix can carry different delivery fees, and you see yours when you choose your delivery window at checkout.

A separate service fee covers Instacart’s operating costs, including shopper operations, insurance, background checks and customer support.

It varies with your location and the number and types of items in your cart.

The service fee isn’t a tip and doesn’t go to the shopper delivering your order.

Replacing or refunding an item changes the service fee, so the total you see at checkout can shift after delivery.

Instacart says the tax on products you buy through its platform matches a physical store’s, but depending on your location the delivery or service fee may be taxed too.

Question 1 of 9

Florida has 67 counties. How many of them have no Publix store?

5. Priority and Long-Distance Fees

Publix delivery runs through Instacart, which says customers who choose a priority delivery window pay a priority fee.

It calls priority delivery its fastest option, with timing that varies with shopper availability, and it isn't always available, so you may not see it on every order.

A long-distance fee may apply when the delivery route takes 15 or more minutes or includes a toll.

A "Farther away" label next to a store's name marks one that sits farther from your address than usual.

The long-distance fee shows at checkout before you place your order.

If a priority order arrives over 30 minutes after its window ends, Instacart says it may credit or refund the priority fee.

Delays from post-order changes or other unforeseen circumstances may not qualify.

6. Prescription Delivery Charges

Publix's Instacart FAQ lists prescription delivery via Instacart at $2.00 when added to a grocery order and $10.99 when not, as of October 2026.

Health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) cards can pay for qualifying prescriptions only through the Publix pharmacy app.

Those cards can't pay delivery fees associated with Instacart.

For more detail on prescription delivery, Publix directs you to its Instacart meds page.

You'd cover those fees with another payment method.

Curbside Pickup Pricing

Publix curbside pickup carries the same item-price footnote as delivery on the Shop Online page, plus the line that fees, tips and taxes may apply, as of October 2026.

Instacart says pickup orders don't have service fees, though pickup orders from certain retailers carry a pickup fee.

Publix says an Instacart shopper fills and stages the order, and a Publix associate brings it out and loads it into your car.

You pick a pickup time once your order is complete, then notify the store through its app or by phone when you park.

You do the driving.

Instacart+ Membership

Publix delivery is powered by Instacart, which sells a membership called Instacart+.

Instacart says members pay no delivery fees on eligible orders above a minimum that varies by retailer, and service fees still apply.

If you join, you may also see an annual or monthly membership charge, depending on your plan.

Because Publix isn't collecting additional fees itself, any membership discount on delivery fees would come from Instacart, not Publix.

Payment Limits

Publix says delivery and curbside orders through Instacart take debit, credit, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and HSA or FSA payments.

These orders don't take Publix gift cards or pre-paid credit cards at this time.

A gift card balance you've been saving can't cover a delivery order as of October 2026, even though Publix's in-store pickup FAQ lists Publix gift cards among its payment options.
