Does Target Price Match? What Florida Shoppers Should Know Before They Buy in 2026
Target’s price match guarantee only covers Target now, not Walmart, Amazon, Costco, or any other outside retailer.
That wide-open guarantee, the deal that used to beat a competitor’s ad at the register, disappeared in the summer of 2025.
Walk into a Florida Target with a screenshot of a lower Walmart price in 2026, and the cashier can’t do anything with it.
But Target still owes shoppers a price adjustment more often than most people realize, as long as you know the exact rules and the deadline.
What Target Still Price Matches
Target’s own price match guarantee runs in one direction now: Target against Target.
Buy something at your local Target, and if Target.com sells that exact item for less, you can ask for the difference.
Order it online instead, and a lower price at your local store works the same way, just flipped.
Target Circle deals count too, and those apply automatically once you’re signed in at checkout.
Same store, different price tag.
The item has to match exactly: The brand name, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number all need to line up.
Swap one detail, a different color throw pillow or a smaller multipack of paper towels, and Target denies the request.
You’ve got 14 days from the purchase date to ask, and it works before you even check out if you catch the lower price first.
Does Target Price Match Walmart or Amazon?
No, and the change caught a lot of loyal shoppers off guard.
Target ran a broad price match guarantee for twelve years, matching Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and dozens of other competitors’ listed prices.
That ended in July 2025.
Twelve years, gone.
Target’s prices already sat further from Amazon’s than Walmart’s did, even before the guarantee disappeared.
That gap comes from 2024 research by the retail analytics firm Profitero: Target runs about 13% higher than Amazon on average, while Walmart runs only about 5% above Amazon.
A shopper who used to lean on the price match to close that gap now pays it in full.
Target’s own spokesperson said the company found that shoppers were mostly price matching Target against itself already, not chasing down competitors’ ads.
Retail reporters tied the timing to shrinking store traffic and rising costs from tariffs on imported goods, both cutting into Target’s profits that same year.
Shoppers who built a habit around screenshotting an Amazon listing at checkout now hit a flat no at the register.
How to Request a Price Match at Target
Catch the price drop before you pay, and the fix takes seconds: Open the Target app, scan the barcode, and show the cashier the lower Target.com price right at the register.
Already home with the receipt?
Head to Guest Services within 14 days, whether that’s the store on International Drive in Orlando or the location off US-1 in Fort Lauderdale, with your phone or the original receipt in hand.
Shopping online instead?
Call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 or start a chat, and have your order number ready.
One catch trips people up: Target wants to see the current, live price, not a screenshot from yesterday.
A saved image doesn’t count.

What Doesn't Qualify for a Price Match
A handful of categories never qualify, no matter how far the price falls.
Clearance, closeout, and liquidation items are out, along with anything already marked down through a Target GiftCard promotion.
Refurbished, used, and open-package items don't count either, and neither does a plain pricing error.
No exceptions.
Target Plus items, sold by outside sellers through Target's marketplace, can't match against Target's own inventory, or the other way around.
Pharmacy purchases, optical products, and contract mobile phones sit on the excluded list too.
Alcohol barely matters at a Florida Target anyway.
State law keeps hard liquor off Target's regular shelves, since Florida requires a package store selling spirits to have no interior doorway back into the main building.
Beer and wine ring up at the regular registers, but a bottle of rum needs its own building next door.
Price Adjustment Beats a Return-and-Rebuy
A lot of shoppers handle a price drop the hard way: They return the item, then buy it again at the new price.
That's more work than it needs to be.
A straight price adjustment skips the return line entirely, and you keep the same box, the same color, and the same item already sitting in your cart at home.
It also dodges a risk: Return the item first, and a popular size or color can sell out before you make it back to the register.
Gone for good.
Ask for the adjustment instead, and Target refunds the difference to your original payment method, usually within a few business days.
Which Stores Still Price Match in 2026
Target isn't the only major retailer that walked away from matching competitors.
Walmart doesn't match outside retailers either, in stores or online, and it won't even match its own dropped online prices after you buy.
Best Buy still does.
Its own guarantee still covers local competitors on identical, in-stock products, in stores and online.
That gap matters most on big-ticket categories like electronics and appliances, the same items that flood back-to-school circulars from Miami to the Panhandle every August.
A shopper chasing the lowest price on a new laptop in 2026 has better luck walking into Best Buy than Target or Walmart.
Target Circle Still Saves Shoppers Money
Losing the price match guarantee doesn't mean Target stopped offering ways to spend less.
Target Circle, the free loyalty program, earns members 1% back in rewards on eligible purchases and applies deals automatically at checkout.
No card required.
The paid Target Circle Card takes it further, knocking 5% off eligible purchases in stores and online, plus free two-day shipping and an extra 30 days on returns.
Target Circle 360 goes further still, for $99 a year or less for students, teachers, and military members, adding free unlimited same-day delivery on orders over $35 through Shipt.
None of that requires beating a competitor's ad.
It just requires signing up.
FAQ
Quick answers to what Florida shoppers ask most about Target's price match policy.
Does Target price match Amazon or Walmart in 2026?
No. Target ended competitor price matching on July 28, 2025, and now matches only its own prices across Target.com, Target stores, and Target Circle deals.
How long do I have to ask for a Target price adjustment?
You have 14 days from the purchase date. Bring your receipt or pull up your order in the Target app, and Guest Services can process the difference.
Does Target match its own online prices for in-store purchases?
Yes. If Target.com sells the identical item for less within the window, a Florida store can refund the difference, and the reverse works too.
Which stores still price match competitors in 2026?
Best Buy still matches key online and local competitors on identical, in-stock items. Walmart, like Target, no longer matches outside retailers.
What items are excluded from Target's price match policy?
Clearance and closeout items, refurbished or open-package products, pricing errors, Target Plus marketplace items, pharmacy and optical purchases, and contract mobile phones all fall outside the policy.
The Target app keeps every purchase tied to your account once you're signed in, so a shopper who buys a patio set in May and watches it drop in June has the order pulled up before Guest Services even asks.
Florida's hurricane season brings its own version of this: A generator or a case of batteries that spiked before a storm often drops back once the shelves restock, and the same 14-day window covers that difference too.
