USPS Holiday Shipping Deadlines for 2026: The Dates Ohioans Need to Mail Christmas Gifts
Christmas is about seven weeks away, but your last day to mail a gift depends on how you ship it.
Ohioans sending packages to family out of state will want those dates on the calendar now.
Here are the 2026 USPS holiday shipping deadlines Ohioans need to mail Christmas gifts on time.
USPS Holiday Shipping Deadlines for 2026
From Ohio or anywhere else in the lower 48 states, you get four USPS services and three different last dates.
Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail share the same date, Thursday, Dec. 17.
Priority Mail follows a day later, on Friday, Dec. 18.
Your latest option is Priority Mail Express, on Saturday, Dec. 19.
USPS announced the 2026 dates in September, calling them recommended send-by dates for delivery before Dec. 25.
Which Deadline Applies to Your Package?
If you mail a box by Dec. 17, Ground Advantage still fits the recommended date, with delivery in 2-5 days.
If you miss that, Priority Mail works through Dec. 18, at 2-3 days in transit.
The fastest option, Priority Mail Express, takes 1-3 days.
Priority Mail Express also offers Sunday and holiday delivery in many major markets for an additional fee.
Upgrading from Ground Advantage to Priority Mail Express moves your cutoff only two days, from Dec. 17 to Dec. 19.
In 2025, USPS expected the week of Dec. 15 to be the busiest of the year.
In 2026, the Ground Advantage date, Dec. 17, lands in the week that starts Monday, Dec. 14.

Sending a gift to one of them?
Ground Advantage packages to or from those places should go out by Wednesday, Dec. 16, a day earlier than in the lower 48 states.
First-Class Mail, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express keep the dates you'd use in the lower 48 states, Dec. 17, Dec. 18 and Dec. 19.
If your gift is headed offshore, Ground Advantage packages may see longer transit times and later estimated delivery dates.
Military and International Mailing Dates
USPS gives your international Christmas packages earlier dates than domestic ones.
Wednesday, Dec. 9, covers both First-Class Package International and Priority Mail International.
Priority Mail Express International gets a week longer, until Wednesday, Dec. 16.
The dates are the same for every region on the list, from Africa and Europe to the Middle East.
If you're mailing to a military address, Ground Advantage had a Nov. 4 date, which has passed.
First-Class Mail and Priority Mail to military addresses should go out by Dec. 9 in all five ZIP code ranges the holiday page lists.
Priority Mail Express Military has a Dec. 16 date in four of those five ranges.

How 2026 Compares With 2025
Between 2025 and 2026, only the Priority Mail Express date moved in the lower 48 states and in the Alaska, Hawaii and territories row.
In 2025, USPS recommended Dec. 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express.
Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the territories follow the same pattern, with a Dec. 16 Ground Advantage date in both years.
If you're working from the 2025 dates, the Priority Mail Express date on your calendar is now a day too late.
How Firm Are the Deadlines?
The Christmas dates on USPS's holiday page carry a caveat.
Actual delivery may vary with where your package starts, where it ends up, when the Post Office accepts it and other conditions.
In its January 2026 report on the 2025 holiday season, USPS said it delivered mail and packages within 2.5 days on average, compared with 2.8 days a year earlier.
A December 2025 release said Priority Mail Express packages could reach select locations on Christmas Day for an additional fee.
This year's release doesn't mention Christmas Day delivery, so check with USPS before you count on it.
Ordering Free Boxes Before Your Deadline
USPS says free Priority Mail boxes and envelopes usually arrive with your regular mail in 7 to 10 days.
Orders for free supplies ship within one business day of the order, then travel by Ground Advantage.
By that math, an order placed Dec. 8 could land as late as Dec. 18, the Priority Mail date.
A box ordered by Nov. 30 should usually arrive by Dec. 10, a week before the Ground Advantage date.
